For 04 CL500 lost key -
Can anyone confirm that replacing all 4 (key,ECU,EIS,shifter) will work on 2004 CL500. Does the ECU number have to exactly match, my current one is A1131535479, or would A1131533479 from 2003 CL500 also work.

will work
all 4 devices have to have the same VIN, that only is important
but your VIN reading also it will be the new VIN number
here in Dallas area they want $680 for key and the car, tow is $200. - I live far away from the dealers. I knew it would be a challenge when I got it, if it goes south, I will part it out.
Had few minutes today to check on it. Noticed the green blinking light by headlight switch, so I hooked up light to fog light socket. The brake and fog lights flash when I open door, guessing its the alarm, but no noise. Also red light on dash lock button is blinking.
Maybe the security is keeping it from turning key?

you can keep guessing but only Xentry will tell you
on 90% of these cars the ATA alarm batteries are dead and need to be replaced, but that is not keeping your car from starting
See if you can throw in the TCu from the donor car, I’m unfamiliar with the blinking headlight lamp issue... are you sure you didn’t short any wires or anything? Check the simple things like fuses etc
to answer your original question, yes those are the 4 components generally needed to swap an ecu/key
for anybody else trying this, keep in mind you will be unable to order new keys from Mercedes UNLESS you procure the title/certificate of ownership from the donor car!!!!! Mercedes does not send you a key for a car you do not technically own. I believe the keys we give customers at work are directly from Germany.
This is very important as these keys/ignitions have a reputation to sometimes fail
I did send off the EIS (and ownership paperwork) to someone in NY that made me a key - car started and runs. And did get hold of a star C3, quick test -
now have to fix lots of other small things like- door locks but won't unlock with remote, Brake lights don't work, a/c not cooling well and side vents don't work, steering wheel little off center,
and have find a front bumper cover.
Did go through each line and clear every code - after doing so then car wouldn't start :-(
Hooked back up and got drive auth refused by ESM - Ended up having to re-initialize it, then it would start!
Fixed and working on most of the items, looking for help on:
Key fob won't lock/unlock door (good battery, red light on fob, lock/unlock switch in car works)
and where does power for EZS come from, Xentry shows component F32 - where located?
(EZS didn't have power, so I supplied it power to get everything to work, without power can't use Xentry)

is it an old key fob? If you are handy with a soldering iron and a magnifying glass, these old keys are known to have bad solder joints after so many years of use and abuse
if it’s a new key, I know if immediately after initializing the key to the car, the door locks will not work. At that point you just cycle the new key in the ignition one or two times and the remote locking functions always works. You may have a bad receiver antenna in the car, common problem for other Mercedes of this era, and I’ve noticed my 2002 does not have the remarkable key fob distance capability it once had. I used to be able to unlock the car from 100ft away, now even with new key fob batteries, I’ll be lucky to get a good response from about 40-50 ft away
After re reading your post I believe your locking issue may have something to do with your drive authorization problems. Any recurring errors for the shifter module? The ignition? The ecu?

It is a new key - I had sent off the EZS to get a new key made. I have cycled the key in the ignition 20+ times (clearing codes had me cycling it and then just driving it around to try to get the monitors to set so I can get it inspected, then try to get tags).
I can check on the receiver antenna, but wonder if it has anything to do with the EZS not getting power from component F32, something is still not exactly right.
I'll also see if it has set any new codes.
Sure! I don't see any reasons why it shouldn't work. I don't advise cutting your keys at home, though, since it's always better to talk to a specialist. You can either go to your local dealership or a professional locksmith. I prefer the locksmith over the car dealership, though, since they have way more affordable prices and make everything as easy and convenient for their customers as possible. I got my ford key replacement by vin at like that. As you just said, it costs over eight hundred dollars to get the job at the dealership. Since you also live far away from one, the locksmith is a way better option, in my opinion.

Do you have the info on your NY contact? I’m trying to get a spare key made for a 2002 CL500. Dealer wants $750.00. What did you pay for the key/programming? You can PM me with the info if you don’t want to make it private. Thanx
