CL 600 sport package on MB Canada site

Only a matter of time before it appears on US site..... still torn between CL63 or CL 600 - afraid that the 63 engine will be a let down from the 55's.

It is a hundred time better, I guarantee. I have been driving an SL 55 for a few years, and I just test drove a new AMG E class with the 6.3 engine.

It is more refined, more linear and has more torque, despite its aspirated nature.

I'm curious that you ordered a CL550 rather than a CL63 with your comments about the "63" engine being so positive.

I get the feeling from reading a few reviews that the 63 cars will seem less brutish than the 55 engines - I love my S55 and don't really want to buy a slower car. seems like a step in the wrong direction. I agree the AMG cars are like night and day compared to the normal cars....can never have enough horses under the hood though.

In want a totally confortable car, since I might buy and Audi S6 Avant as my current A6 replacement

Futhermore traffic laws have become so stringent in Switzerland, that I am sort of giving up on sports driving.

DHH, maybe you should wait 1 year from now and maybe order a CL550 TT?

My lease is up at end of February. So I kind of need a daily driver.... I don't think we'll see a new engine for a while from MB....

The new SL 55 compressor engines are rated at 510 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque while the 63 engines have 507 hp and 465 lb-ft or torque. The 7 speed tranny isn't yet offered on the Kompressor 55 engines because they can't take the torque of the supercharged engine.

the 55 engine is faster off the line the 63 engine is faster up top. I do most of my driving down low so am sticking with a 55 engine for another year on that particular car.

..........Do you want correct what you said in light of the factual information you received from BlownV8? Or do facts not matter?

I drove the e63 and it is no match for the torque monster 55 engine. that engine is WAY under reported by MB. it is a STRONG engine. more powerful than the 63.

Having this discussion in the AMG forum. Seem they don't offer the kit in US and may not do so for a while as it would hurt sales of the CL65. I am just having an AMG kit off a 550 put on a CL600 and then letting Kleemann go to work. TT V12 is such a better package than the 63 not only for the extra 100 ft/lbs of torque but the low cost mod options that can bring it up to and above the 65 performance for a fraction of the cost. The CL is a heavy car and for that formula torque is the answer and lots of it. Only thing it lacks are the AMG badges and for that performance gain I'll gladly sacrafice them.

In Europe the 6.3 engine does have more torque that the 5,5 Kompressor due to the different electronics secndary to the much higher octane gasoline (98) we have in Europe. You can do the research yourself on the various European AMG sites

1. Gaining 66 lb-ft of torque through 'electronics' sounds very wrong

2. Why would 98 octane gas affect the 6.3 engine more then the 55 kompressor

Can you cite some sources?

The European spec 6.2L AMG V8 has the same power/torque ratings as the U.S. model. The only differences are when the SAE to DIN conversion is made. In Europe the CL63 has 525hp and here it has 518, just a conversion issue nothing more. There in no way the 6.2 makes the same torque as the old 5.5L in Europe and they wouldn't bring it to the U.S.!

I called my MB dealer and I stand corrected! The 6,3 liter aspirated engine hass slightly less torque than the 5.5 liter with coimpressor.

Having said that, I took an other test drive, and the 6.3 engine "feels" torquier, better refined: it is an overall much better driving experience.
