Which is faster?

Does anyone know for fact.... not speculation.... is the CL55 is faster in a stright line or the CL600? I know MB lists both at 4.6 0-60 but I know that is bogus just like they are both rated at the same exact HP.

Has anyone raced the two? I know on the SL forums they did that and the 600 was faster.

I'd say that's true for 2003 and up, once the 600's got turbos. I'm just speculatin' though... :p

This is all 2003 up

I have experience the CL600

Hands down it is faster then CL55 at any speed as well. But the CL55 does sounds a lot nicer and handles a lot better. Though CL600 is pure comfort. 55 is more rigid and jumpy.

600 and 65 are rather close. The 65 have a much richer mid band. Thats all i felt with my dads 600 and my 65.

I just came back from driving both.... two 03's. Almost back to back. The 600 is definitely faster. You don't need a stopwatch to measure. Its clearly felt. The 55 has MUCH nicer seats. They may look like the 600 seats, but they are very different and to me, much better.

The handling is different... I don't care if some say the shocks have the same part #'s, etc., the 55 is more high-strung and sort of wants you to throw it into a corner more.

The brakes felt about the same to me. Although the 55 has larger calipers, at least with the moderately hard braking I was doing over and over and into corners, it did not feel that different than my 600's brakes.

Now talk about a noise difference. I cannot believe how much louder a 55 is in comparison to the 600. In the 600 I floored it from a stop and I got up to triple digits so fast.... and it felt like I was just cruising down Redeo Drive at 30... the speedometer shows 100, but you are thinking "did this car grunt at all to get to that speed?" .... for some this is good.... for me it was TOOO quiet. My non TT 600 has more growl... but not the pull. The 55 on the other hand was growling... at idle, at midrange, at high RPM's.... a beautiful sound, but even at cruise there is a slight drone that felt tiring compared to the utter quiet of my 600. For a short drive I like the 55 growl.... on a long haul, I prefer the 600's serene enviro...

But I think we can put the question of which is faster in a straight line to rest. The 600 is faster.

hehe yeah.... I drove them both and I was thinking "damn, James was right about all the comments".... hey man, it was fun driving both... had to do it!

IMHO, the best car would be a 600 with 55 brakes and suspension, 55 seats, but 600 leather and trim, and the 600 engine. That would be a nice combination, which is basically a cheap CL65.... life must be rough James!!

Well I was about to drop some money into my 02. The car is flawless, its still only got 21K miles on it, and has every option which is very rare.... distronic, TPS, Parktronic, trunk closer, AMG, Keyless go... I was doing Renntech ECU, Renntech wheels, Eisenhaus exhaust, some body work, etc... I thought maybe I am wasting money and I am better off going 03 and up. So I went to drive both and was amazed of the power in the 600... but other than straight line go, I actually thought my car was better than the one I test drove. I drove a 55 and it was very sporty, it was much more fun honestly, but I would get tired of its high-strung quality on any long trip (all being relative).

After having driven both, I have decided I like mine enough to invest in it. There just wasn't enough of a difference for me to get rid of my mint 600. I have decided to wait a bit and get a CL65 or wait for the new CL.

So let me know when you want to sell yours for say.... $25K...

You know for it to drop that much,i think you'll have to wait another 8 years?? lol

Hey i support you. With 21k miles on it, it really does not warrant a need for new car. You could easily spent those money into some enjine upgrades with Kleeman. They could easily turbocharge you car up to 620hp if i am not wrong. Well the price would definately be much cheaper then you changing up to a 03 55 or 600. And you get much more powerful car then those.

And yes your car is rare. It has full options and esp with a 02. And the upgrade that you've done, its more toward your own passion for it then any other thing else, power is not all that matters though its definately an added bonus, well.. Kleeman here AMG2GO comes? lol
