Purchasing Advice (CL500 v. CL55)

I would appreciate some feedback about the differences in steering effort, braking effort between the CL500 and CL55. I'm thinking of purchasing the CL55 for my wife who currently drives a 740i sport, and am concerned that she will not feel the car is as "easy to drive" as the 740i. Anyone with comparisons between the BMW sedan and the CL55 or between the CL500 and the CL55?? I appreciate any opinions.

my wife had until recently a cl55.it's as easy to drive as cl500 ,just more responsive and more powerful, comparing to 740
is like comparing old e320 to 740. (different league)
your wife will surely like it much better!!

Being in the industry, I don't see very many women going with all the Horsepower. Just a little exercise, pay attention to all the S-class you see on the streets. 95% of the women drive the S320 or S430 & 97% of the Men drive the 500, 55 & 600's. It is a funny thing to notice, just try and see how right I am on this issue. BTW, go with the CL55, 2 reasons: Low production - will hold value even better & More power - I don't think I have to expain myself on this!!!

The Brakes on a CL55 are awesome , it was certainly one of the first things I noticed about the car and one of the most impressive. I find it fun to drive at high speed towards a junction with a passenger and watch them squirm like hell becuase they don't think we are going to stop , but as soon as I hit the brakes the car gracefully stops without any effort at all. BTW I do drive my car to the 155mph cut off almost daily unlike other *****'s who buy a fast car and never push it too it's limits

One more thing , I think she will find the car much easier to drive than a 740 , the turning circle and driving position is much more comfortable than any BMW

Last time I pushed my dearly departed cl55 to 145mph,I got clocked by a cleverly hidden Lake Forest cop.
Cost me a $1000 in lawyer fees and a ticket on my record(lowered to 80mph in a 55 zone)
I should consider myself lucky for not loosing my licence!

I would be more inclined to get a CL600 rather than the AMG, albeit with a sport package ofcourse. I think that for a vehicle of the CL's stature, the refinement and comparable power of the V12 is more suitable. The AMG engine I believe is better suited to the SL model. THis is my opinion, anyway. The fact that MB offers a whole range of AMG's proves that there is a huge crowd that thinks differently.

The brakes and rotors on the CL55 are the same used on the CL500 and CL600. No difference there.

Supposedly the 2003 CL55 was supposed to have the new Sensotronic Brake Control, however from the recent press releases (8/15/02) it appears that only the E55 will share this brake system with the new SL's as of now. Maybe in 2004 we will see SBC on other models.
