Thinking of getting a CL55...advice please

Sup,
One of my close friends is thinking of getting a current gen CL(00-06). He is aiming towards a CL500 because of price but im trying to convince him into getting a Cl55 AMG. I think the oldest year he should get is 03 because of the minor facelift so either 03-04. He wants black, thats the only color. What do you guys think in regards to price, etc? Thanks,

Also, how much $$ should a 55 be over a 500 and is the extra power that noticable? Thanks

First off, good choice by your friend going with a CL. The highlight of the Mercedes model lineup for years. Yes, the power differential between the two is rather noticeable... 302hp vs. 493hp supercharged V8. However the price differential can be rather hefty as well, albeit not as great when you're looking at a vehicles a few years old and very much into their slippery slope of depreciation. For Cl500's you can find 03s for as cheap as the mid 40s up to the high 50s and you're looking high 50s-80s for CL55 depending model year and mileage. I am actually selling my black 03 CL500 ( pristine condition) right now and have a listing on ebay. If interested private message me or let me know how to contact u.. Good luck to your friend in his search for a new ride.. either way he wont go wrong..

I use to own a 2003 CL55. Great car!! Much better in every respect to the non-amg. Power, handling, looks... I advise to get an 05 at the least for two reasons. First the 03 - 04 have the worst navigation and command I have ever used. The 05 has the DVD based navigation and it still isn't great but is much better then the 03 -04. Get the keyless go at the minimum. It is a great option. I also think an 05 is better because of warranty issues. The car is great and you can get a super deal if you know how to look. Good luck!

thanks for the replies. well, the black really narrows it down. the thing is, he thinks the 500 will have more than enough power and even that is an overkill, he is not really a fast driver i guess. if he gets the 500 with the sports package n stuff wont it look just like the 55 minus the exhaust, badges, and rims(and the performance). Also, the price range is the 50's so 03 is pretty much the only year. navagation is not too importnat, as long as its there for emergency use. quick queestion tho, if you floor the 500 or 55, will there be wheelspin while moving? like the m5 and some e55s?

Thanks

Actually the 2004 CL55 has DVD-based navigation and the same unit as in the 2005. Just an FYI. I know because I have one I have keyless go and love it and have had minimal warranty issues. Great car. Will probably sell it late this year or early next, but sorry it is Brilliant Silver.

03 55s are prolly gonna run you in the 50s to 60s depending on mileage and condition..
remember though.. all cars past 04 are going to be without warranty.. something that is not advisable unless you purchase a starmark CPO or purchase an after market warranty which will run you about 3500 for another few years of coverage..

hmm. he will probaly get an extended warranty or some cars already ave the extended one. he wants to buy it off a private party rather than a dealer because he says it might be cheaper with taxes etc.

anyone else? and videos? thanks

oh yeah, which is faster? e55, sl55, cls55 or cl55 or the same?

depends on who is driving
but you probably will get the fastest times out of the E55.. given body weight and such...albeit.. very very similar 0-60 times..

remember grasshoppa, do not be tempted by NON-authorized used car centers. their prices really are amazing but...there is a reason.
