Capitol Raceway in search of an 11 sec 1/4 mile.....

I took my CL600 the dragstrip for her first time ever to get some baseline runs in. I was only able to do 2 runs because it was getting crowded and my girlfriend was bored. My launch was a bit unorthodox, I "feared the wall" so I refused to run in dyno mode on radials until I get some sticky tires. Since this car hits so hard down low so I launched with ESP on do get the car out of the hole, as soon as the car lurches forward I turn the ESP off to allow for a little hazing of the tires coming out of first and on the 1-2 shift, I was able to modulate this perfectly on the second run. All I can say is Im awe of my cars performance, best run of the day 11.77 @ 122.13 MPH!!! Now I need some drag radials to get my 60ft down and run this thing in pure dyno mode!

2005 CL600 AMG tuned ECU/TCU
74 degrees (felt 10 deg colder)
10-15mph wind gusts
1/2 tank pump gas 93 octane
30 psi 19" Michelin PS1's no burnout

Nice run
You were actually stronger than the other car (11.17@118) from both the 1/8 mile and the 1000-foot.
Just show what sticky tires and a decent 60-foot can do.

If you get your 60' down to 1.8, your time will be even more impressive.
I'm glad I don't have to line up next to you.

I really need some drag radials, I hope to get into the 11.40's then. Im contemplating the idea of a lightweight 18"

Great time!!
How many people came up to you and said"what the hell did you do to that thing!"

I only ran a 12.5 and got that from everyone.

thanks scott....the funny thing was they announced it as a CL500 at the tower, after my first run it got a little attention and a few actually knew what motor it had which was surprising.

I purchased the vehicle already modified so I dont know how much was originally paid, as far as I have been told it cannot be replicated.

Don't ever let the stealership do a reflash of the ECU or all will be lost. Get a copy made for Christ sakes.

They will do it anyway and make up some BS excuse why they did. I wouldn't even take it in for service until you copied that ECU tuning.

Hi E55JAY:
How come I have that much slower time than you.
I had, just about, the same end speed. I made 12,46 @ 121,1 m/h (allthough with a co-pilot and at "stage 1").
Of course, I understand that my rear tires aren't that optimal (245/35-20), but can your 19" make up for allmost a hole second..?
I mean, you wrote that you also had a bad grip in 1st and 2nd gear.

I'm pretty new at this, but I do understand, that a second is a lifetime in this business...
What am I doin wrong here?
How much does the end speed increase, if I get a grip that takes me to mid 11's..?
And what tires would that require..?
I sooo wanna get there...

Trap speed is a good indicator of how much power your car is making. If you're trapping the same as E55Jay and running a second slower, its all in your launch (work on that)

1/4 time is all about launch, 60ft and traction. You need to get to a real track with timing devices as those electronic devices seem to be notoriously inaccurate
