Previous 65s were brought at the end of the production cycle, current ones will stay that way for a while so don't expect similar depreciation on S/CL.
SL is the exception as it is already dated and no longer "the car to have".

Not so sure about that. An '07 S65 (new body style) with a few thousand miles can be found for the high $150s, if you're truly a serious buyer. That's already a $35K-ish depreciation from original sticker and we are just a couple of months into the '08s. Although the body style is new, the deprecitation will not change appreciably from the last ones--if you want proof, just check the 36month residuals on an MB lease. YIKES.

i'm pretty sure 12 cylinders depreciate that way on most cars, it sucks, but its true

2010 CL65
Gotta love a $200K alleged AMG w/a codgerly wood steering wheel and burl walnut trim (and crass Bentleyesque quilted leather....just like a tacky grandma's couch)......and S65-style wheels, not the lighter (and better looking) CL63 030 wheels....

Given how weak is mkt for new CL63s (and all high-end new cars ex-599/430)....would bet on interesting discts/2yr lease terms....and 50% MSRP trade-in value in one yr.....

Another risk is that AMG replaces the elderly, heavy 65 motor within next 12-18 mos w/a new, latest-tech V12.....

Absolutely! I visited a local dealer a few days ago and he told me there is no waiting-list on the CL65. I guess it's possible they find somebody crazy enough to pay that mark-up but I would prefer ordering that car with my own favorite color-combo, wait 70 days and save the mark-up.

06 CLS55 w/ P030, 05 Jag S Type R, 05 TBird-68 Dodge Charger R/T-440 w/4speed I'm original owner
There are a least 1000 buyers in the US each year that can easily afford the price tag with no questions asked (don't care about depreciation).

Bear in mind most guys that flip their cars every year or two, don't really pay for them--it's the company's car. That's part of their pay package.

The 65s with the high prices are not meant for the masses. Guys that don't measure up in their earning capacity take sloppy seconds as a pre owned.

Well, according to that, every 65-car should (and could) be sold for - let's say - $500K. No car with a price tag of more than $100K is 'meant for the masses'.

Mark-ups (or: Market Adjustments) aren't meant to be an added gift to show off ('hey I can afford that car..') - they are meant to be paid (if ever) on cars that are difficult to get due to the current market situation.

You can get this car just like any other, with NO waiting list, so why the mark-up? Is there a mark-up on the current S or SL65? I don't think so. But why not? Aren't those cars that have potential customers that don't care about money, too, or are the S65 and SL65 'cars for the masses'? And what about company cars? Same applies as well: What makes the CL65 so special? The only reason for this specific mark-up is that it's a new model. No business-reasons or affordability-questions.

I was recently offered $15K off MSRP on a SL65. How can that be, on a car like that?

It's going to only get worse. Have you checked out the new Bentley Contintntal GT Speed? Bentley (er, VW) has taken an AMG approach to the big bruiser and upgraded the motor, suspension, brakes, rolling stock, interior, etc. It's every bit as fast as a CL 65 but looks better inside and out. And MSRP is comparable. Why own a Merc?

If you live in the Snowbelt area you would also appreciate Bentley's all wheel drive that makes that car really practical vs CL65.
