CL63 Horsepower Advantage
For those in the know.....how does the CL63 achieve its 11 horsepower advantage over the E63, since both have the "same" engine and TQ. Is it done with electronics, or by some other way...just curious>>

This is likely just software. we need to steal the map of an S63 or CL 63 and put it in our cars...Could also just be BS marketing

Mercedes did the same thing with the E55 vs the SL55, they both wound up dynoing around the same exact figures. They also rated the CL600 as having the same hp as the CL55 when we all know the 600 has about 50 more hp. Don't ya just love Mercedes marketing strategies?
The 63 series of cars has a least 4 different variations of hp levels...the C63, CLK63, E63, and CL63 all have different ratings, makes you wonder...

Typically in such cases, which are hardly confined to MB btw, the difference is in the air intake or exhaust. Also, it could relate to the fuel table. If the same engine is tuned to use a lower octane fuel, for example, it would produce less power.
Sometimes this is done to protect the top end car, and sometimes it is a matter of cost or space considerations. A CL63 might have metal cats and a lighter, less restrictive exhaust that costs an extra grand or two over the exhaust in the E63. Again, that's just an example; I have no idea why there is a difference in this case. Another might be that the E has a smaller engine compartment and can't fit the same airbox or exhaust manifolds that the CL uses.
As another poster said, however, in the end it doesn't matter much. 5-10hp difference at the crank is about 4-8 at the rear wheels. You won't feel it at all, and it's within the margin of error (air temp, engine breakin time, engine warmup, etc) on most dyno pulls.
So, don't worry about it. It's a fire breathing, big *** 8 no matter what.

i have read that there minor HP changes plus or minus 10 or so HP is due to differnt exhaust setups and lenghts. Alsoo read in Motor Trend that the C63 was de-tuned as not to offend the higher payin E63 costumers

Slightly smaller air boxes, minor exhaust tune, and ECU de-tuning is the primary difference between C63 and E63 hp ratings. It will be super easy to re-tune the C63 back to 507 hp and then let the mods begin....
