2003 Cl55 With Only 5k

I think I found my new car. 2003 CL55 with only 5k for miles and 20" Lowenhart wheels. The car is Black on Black with every option distronic-keyless-parktronic etc.

The only hold up is the guy wants 53k and I offered 48k but the car is brand new (still smells like it) and I think I'll just pay the price for such a rare car.

What do you guys think?

Fight for every dollar discount.
Warranty?

Other than that, it sounds like a beauty.

kbb.com says 54,500 or so for good condition private party. get as low as you can, but it sounds like a good deal...........In my honest opinion, 55K for an old body CL is alot to pay. a CL55 would be crazy fast, but .........even though they are worth "55k" i dont think there is much of a market for it.

Truely a one of a kind with the low mi.
Negotiate for every dollar, but if push comes to shove, grab it at his price.

if your going to spend that much for an almost 5 year old car, try to find an 05 cl65 w/decent miles with a warranty for $65k.

When a car has that low of miles for a 5 year old car...I get a little skeptical. Did you ask for all the service records and check for any repaint? Sometimes the reason for the low mileage is that the car was out of service for long periods of time (major mechanical problems or accident). I would pay the extra money and have the car inspected.

He was original owner and had a 6 car garage. 2 suv's- Ferrari 360- Aston Martin-CL55- and a Mercedes s430 2002 with 9K for miles. He is only selling the CL. Honestly the car looked beter than a new one sitting on the show room floor. 53k is just a lot of $ I agree. If miles stay low in the next 2-3 years and I want to resell it let's say with 25k what can I expect to get?
I like to trade in-out every 3-4 years.

I had kind of the same question on a CL65. I don't know about you...but I love to drive. Will you be able to hold down the mileage of such a great car as the CL55? In three years will you put less than 7K miles a year? The car will be 8 years old at that point. I would suggest trying to look at comparable 8 year old Mercedes and their relative pricing point. That would bring a comparison of a 1999 CL600 and CL500, a car I liked back in the day. I can't remember the last time I saw one on the street. Where did they all go (containers to South America or Africa)? I can't imagine that there is a big market for such cars. I am not sure holding down the mileage would be worth it either. You will hvae to find that rare buyer who will fully appreciate and want that low mileage CL55. I came to a conclusion myself on the CL65, that when I am ready, I will buy it and just keep it without concern for the future value.

imo, paying this premium is not worth it especially if you're only holding it for 3-4 yrs. in other words, you'll take a big hit for buying hi and selling mid-. by end of 2010, nov/dec, my gut feel is it'll be 7-8 yrs old depending on in-date svc and ppl buying 2011 models...worth $27-30k w/ 25k miles on it. with about $3500/yr in finance cost(or 7% cost of capital) x 3 yrs, plus $7k/yr in depreciation, that's about $11k+/yr for you. that's not great in my mind, but it's your call. remember, as you sell it in 3 yrs, it's just a car

Fantastic point. Come to think of it, I can't remember seeing a 90s model CL (SEC) in years. I don't even see them on MB lots!!!!

$3500/year in finance costs?? I guess if you got a zero-down loan, which are pretty difficult to get in today's post-subprime meltdown! With $35K financed for four years at 7%, it'd be a total interest cost of about $5200.

Depreciation-wise, I agree, it would probably cost $6-7K/year if he only holds it for three years. Of course, when you compare this to the hit you take buying one of these babies *new* and holding it for three years, roughly $50K or so, it doesn't look so bad!!

Now, keeping if for four years would make it a little more palatable, with a hit of around $22K, or $5.5K/yr.

in my opinion - pas on the older body Benzo's

I know of no other car that takes as big of a hit as them.

That era for Benz was not great, in fact that particular car had just about the worst record in terms of reliablity, it almost sank Benzo.

For 55K, Id grab a M3 vert or a SMG 650i mint. For some reason I like used Bimmers and Audi's better than that Benz era. Too chunky, very dated electronics and unreliable.

Older body?
Are you on crack Barolo?

The 215 is classic MB in a way that the 216 will never be!

Okay, there ... I feel better. Sorry.

PS. Good thing MB had Chrysler in those days or the balance sheet would have been hideous!

Go sit in a new C Class, examine the cheapo plastic they've started using, compare it to the previous version, and say that with a straight face.
