Wheels have got to go. The rest of it is very nice. I really like those smooth lined exhaust pipes. I wish MB would start doing this automatically.

IMO, aftermkt anything often predicts a used car/"trying too hard" ethos.....

From engineering standpoint, would rather bet on AMG (or OEM) R&D than any one-off shop....suspect scale/infrastruc is needed for innovation/perf/safety/warranty (and liability) suppt....esp given how tech-intense are today's cars....era of one-off cars is over....these aren't items of bespoke clothing....and, unlike other after-mkt-modified tech toys (like hacked iPhones, etc), cars entail signif physical personal safety (and financial liability) risks if components fail.....

Besides, would rather spend discretionary cash on obtaining new, interesting cars every 6mos or so....than living w/any car beyond that point.....enjoy driving my CL63 every day....but no matter how carefully parked/maintained/detailed, inevitably face stone chips and decay of tires/wheels/brakes....would rather just get new, latest/greatest stuff more often.....but to each his own.....

I think someone should beat the owners *** for screwing up a good looking car.

arent you guys being a bit ****?

were talking wheels here, certainly quality of aftermarket wheels are arbitrary as I would say half are indeed inferior to OEM but on the other hand, respected manufactuers such as HRE BBS Lorinser Racing Dynamics etc offer true three piece, lighter, better alloys, custom wider widths staggered fitments, etc that OEM could ever afford to put on their cars. After all there are the brands race car tuner select to use on the track!

Sprung weight and width would be the determining factor as to whether the wheel is a performance upgrade from OEM, not who makes them. Even the AMG performance wheels is merely a forged wheel.

Also, I really dont think body kits deter from the structural integrity of any car. In fact the sport package on Mercedes cars are nothing but glued on parts that are strictly cosmetic. I removed sideskirts from an AMG car and found them to be merely pasted on. Trust me, aerodynamics of an AMG kit would only come into play at very high speeds probably not even atainable only on a track or wind tunnel. Purely cosmetic (and a must to me in terms of the look)

I do like the Lorinser fenders and exhaust system very much granted and I think these chromes are hideous and don't fit the car but I would NEVER go so far as to say the only OEM can get it right.

At any OEM house decisions that reflect performance and appearances ARE ALWAYS BEANCOUNTED as to whether the rate of return can substantiate the cost.

Here is a perfect exaple, on my 997, I removed Porsches $3K upgraded "sport" muffler system to install an aftermarket $1.2K system and sat the two untis side by side.

The Porsche exhaust was pot metal, cheaply made, robotically tick welded, shotty as you could imagine any OEM muffler system to be. In fact if it wasnt stamped Porsche you would never know it didn't come from a bug. And mind you this was the "sport sound" upgrade I paid $3K for on top of the standard Porsche exhaust.

The Agency Power aftermarket muffler was all stainless, lighter, added 15 HP (dyno) breathed easier, made to last a lifetime. welded like a submarine body and simply overall felt like a metal sculpture. This is about the best illustration of what I am talking about that you can fathom.

Dont even let me begin with auto sound and the $1700 upgrade for performance BOSE sound packages found in most cars today. They offer BOSE sound becasue as I read in an article that the the 11 pc. Bose paper cone drivers found in most vehicles today cost the manufacturer about $60. Thats for all 11 speakers guys. Then they justify it by saying that what youre paying for is the engineering to make those speakers sound best in the custom interior of your car. That is true to an extent but the absolute truth is phrased like this..."what is the cheapest system that we can engineer for this car that would allow a customer to up-pay $1700 for this option and not complain"

Dont fool yourselves into thinking OEM has your best interest at heart. They don't. Cut one corner, their bottom line goes up, cut 3000 corners their shareholders sip champagne at our expense.

You know a good way to determine the QUALITY of a car? And when I say quality, I mean true quality, down to the bolts and rivets....

Ask your local bodyshop...

they tear down doors, sustructures, compartments, bays etc all day every day. they know if a manufacturer uses metric hex bolts or cheap screws or pop rivets when tearing open a door assembly....that is true quality my friends..Don't worry about how glove soft the leather is or what meets the eye, worry about whether they use cheap rubber hosing with ratchet crimps or whether they use braided or mandrel bent hard lines, etc...These are the true meaning of quality and value.

My bodyshop tells me that Audi and Lexus use the highest qulity assemblies they have seen for mass built cars (Bentley and Aston aside)

Ah, if it's wheels only I think you have your answer above (in droves). They are hideous. They also appear VERY heavy. It is OBVIOUSLY a car whose owner cares FAR more about the "bling" than he does the performance of the car. Even the "bling" factor is "DATED" and looks more like something someone out of the know might throw onto a car thinking "hey, I'm cool" when all the rest arond him are looking at him and saying WTF?

By the way - You posted this in the wrong forum. This section is for AMG vehicles. That car is not an AMG nor is it anything even close to an AMG. Personally, I'd pee on it's tires if I saw it as that would make it smell the way it looks... Peee-U!

im sure we can all agree that wheels suck, but i was reffering more to the bodykit with the silver accenting. I've never seen the lorinser done in this way on black with contrasting mesh and tail pipe holes

Threadjackkkked!!!

I have seen this car personally in Orlando. I believe it was purchased from Mercedes of South Orlando and then some drug dealer bought it and took it to Ultimate Audio to "PIMP MY RIDE". I personally disliked it even though I have Lorinser stuff on my car this car looked like a kid from the ghetto chose the rims.

I wanna big up Ultimate Audio in Orlando they keep us Miami boys riding fresh while were up in Orlando making it snow for the tourists. They hooked up Dwayne Wades Maybach and do mostly Luxury cars. Barolo CLS you should check them out. Call them up at 407 849 1100 or check em out if your in Orlando and tell them Big D from Miami sent ya youll get hooked up fosho.lol
Heres some of their work on CLs to give you an idea:

Dwayne Wades CL I told him personally to get it coke white.haha

I seen the Sandy Silverish CL550 (above) on the showroom floor @ the South Orlando MB dealership by Millenia. That car is sick! I was wondering who's gonna ****** that up.

Also I remember seeing the white Rolls at the Gold's gym off of Sand Lake. Beautiful cars!

Where's Ultimate Audio located? Colonial?
