CL63 in snow and ice
I was at Art Basil last week and saw a lot of cars with the bling thing. Maybe I’m an Old Fart but I don’t get it. Isn’t it like a red plastic watch band on an Ademars?
**** NEW SURVEY****
I spent around 45 minutes on the corner of Collins and 15th and this is what I saw:
Lamborghini - 5
Ferrari - 4
Bentley - 3
Austin Martin - 2
Porsche - 2
SL - Several
CL63 1 Maybe rental.
Maybach – 2
Army tank with turret and guns – 1
Hookers – Many.
THIS JUST IN…..

Agree....lots of ugly, "look at me" cars in places like LA/Miami, etc.....aside from all the used cars w/aftermkt nonsense, one is also visually assaulted by many new cars w/similarly tacky stuff.....too aspirational/"trying too hard" IMO....
And, despite much popular exaggeration, in my expce, sightings of new CL63 030s/CL65s or 599s are uncommon, even in Beverly Hills on many sunny wkend PMs when poseurs are out in full force....prob see more CL63/599 (mysteriously factory-spec/no aftermkt anything; conservative colors; not always just-detailed...and even used in rain
) in routine early AM commute traffic on a wkday in SiliconValley/SF.....
Would argue one learns more about consumption culture of an urban region from the cars in wkday commute traffic...or in certain office pkg garages....than any cars circling tourist/shopping areas on a sunny wkend PM
.....you're our beta-tester
Seriously, earlier this decade, as a naive 20-something yo kid would drive a new CL55 w/?perf tires of that era around Manhattan's slow, flat roads as part of my daily commute....never had a trac issue....
But, now, as a somewhat more risk-averse CA kid
, avoid heading to mtn twisties on unusually cold wkend AM's when temps near 45F (wait until temps elevate to 50s later in AM, even though my car is in a 65F garage overnt...and is driven 40mis at rather brisk speeds to reach my favorite twisties).....suspect today's perf tires are a bit more finicky re: temps vs trac than tires of yesteryr.....Looking fwd to your expces w/summ perf tires in an Eastern winter....even on dry, <<45F roads....would prefer to head to twisties earlier on winter wkend AMs to avoid traffic, if trac is acceptable vs occasional 40ishF temps.....

I tend to be a minimalist w/my choices....yrs ago got a Patek Calatrava and pair of Schlumberger cufflinks....have worn both daily ever since (quite the value
)....despite consuming/enjoying dozens of new cars over same time period....Like fact that, unlike watches (which are effectively jewelry, judged based upon aesthetics/design/brand), cars have many interesting aspects of aesthetics, perf, safety, tech, ergonomics and use/disuse decay curves....perhaps a more complex set of characteristics to analyze/learn/enjoy than any jewelry and/or consumer tech device.....and, thus, half-lives even shorter than any smartphone, flat-panel TV, etc....

Things change.
