I am not sure you will ever see a truly "scientific" evaluation between the two cars. I think magazine testing is antecdotal to a large extent. Even the magazine road tests could vary as they may test the cars at different times of the day (a cold morning vs a warmer afternoon could distort the results)....or different drivers. It seems (my personal observation not a scientific evaluation) that CL63 owners are extremely passionate about their cars (actually very commendable). I think the car appeals to a very affluent audience, whose taste for the finer things in life does not come at the expense for their sporty/aggressive flare. While I can appreciate this sentiment (and am somewhat zealous about the things I like/love), I think this enthusiasm sometimes impairs one's judgement when it comes to a comparison of their car. I think (once again opinion) that the W215 CL55 and W215 CL600 was much more divergent in performance (they both had the same transmission). The W216 battle between the CL63 and CL600 is much closer because of the gearing. With that said, I believe Jim's accounts to be completely accurate even if merely anecdotal and not scientific (although lets not forget that a major process of the scientific method is observation).

I wouldn't mind heading up there opening up the proverbial can of whoop, visiting my friend in Osterville and then driving back with some gas money.![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)

You actually would catch me...as I am limited to 155mph rather than your performance package "de-limited" 186mph top end. But I would imagine you would need one really really long straight and for me to be topped out for quite some time before you would reel me in.

I have yet to run a CL63 in my 05' SL600 but I suspect it will be the "Mirage" in the distance

NO WAY the CL63 gearing is going to make-up the nearly 200ft lb torque deficit

I have a 2005 sl600 (in FL) as well and it handily beat my old e55k, for what its worth ...all the time. 600's are torque machines.

Well...he challenged me and he is at an 86hp, 273 lbs-ft torque, and 156lbs weight disadvantage. Either he has a very good sense of humor or "he ain't right in the head".

Yes, there may be some nitrous on my brain or just the residue from woodstock, the original. This board gets really dull at times, just trying to mix it up a bit.

I just blew the doors off a CL63 last night...normally I wouldn't post about an unfair race like that, but I found it funny how I was just discussing the CL63's pathetic acceleration on this forum and what do I bump into last night? A nice shiny silver CL63 with license plates "CL63" lol. I know what V12TT Benzes are capable of and this n/a V8 wasn't even close...

Im loving this. If both cars are stock, I put my money on the 63 if its a Canyon run. Straight aways are whack, Im neck and neck with 63s and 600s in my 500 ever week on the 405, lol

I should also point out (and as previously mentioned) that my V12TT is one of the 65 variety. ieb challenged, and I accepted. Whether he realized he was challenging a CL65, is a question for him. Although given his proclivity to make bold statements (such as making his mirage of a CL63 disappear to a CL600) I would think that he "knew" what he was getting himself into.

Also...there aren't many "Canyons" up in Beantown last time I was up there. It would be interesting to see if a W215 CL65 could hang with a CL63 in the twisties. They essentially have the same brakes, but my car weighs about 150lbs less. Although my Fat Head probably adds some weight back (anticipating ieb's response). ![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

I raced a CL 65 Renntech not side by side but same day same track, car was fast but not as fast as the stage 5 E55 we had. I did manage a few runs slightly quicker but never out trapped the 65. This from a roll would have been murder. I think its great you guys wish to line em up, man its funny. You think your car is fast and then you run somebody that makes you seem like you are stopped, LOL. The V12 is not a car I would pick a fight with. Go destroy the CL 55 :-)
EDIT: A stock CL 63 can easily hang with a stock 600 , I forgot the 600 is 510 HP vs the 604 in the 65 LOL.. This is a good and = match. Actually very very intriguing despite Jimand's continual obliteration of the 63 , I think it is part fairy tale. where is your 1/4 mile time Jimand?
Run the cars I am certain the bias that lingers against the 63 will be here until it is proven otherwise. CL63 drivers do not typically "race" so randomly blasting past one is not something to pound yer chesty about. Car seems to always be in cruise mode. Anyway Jimand how about you and ieb hook up this summer on a real track an see what happens .
