another CL63 quick kill
Yeah so is a 150 shot of nos on a 63, tic toc
My money would be on the 600 though!
Your Z06 would dismantle a 63 and a 600, both cars would seem pathetic vs your 3100 lb car. However , a 63 vs a similarly weighted benz would do just fine.
Jimand simply needs to race ieb in a planned and recorded event that can settle this. I wonder , does Sean actually think his 600 is faster than his C6?
I am not sure a CL55 would be something a CL63 would want to tangle with either. I hate to bust out magazine times (I think CL55's are one of the least tracked AMG cars)...but a CL55 tested in Motor Trend did run a 12.38 @114.5. I think that would be a tall order for a CL63 ladden with 600lbs more weight. The 7 speed tranny would help offset the torque and weight advantages of the 55....but it would not result in a victory for the CL63 (let alone "destroying the CL55").
Who knows what was going on with the CL63 drivers that Jim encountered... but I have no reason to doubt his accounts.
I actually agree with you on the lingering 63 bias. I think it lies in the fact that a lot of people originally gravitated to AMG products because of the overwhelming torque advantage over rivals. Torque became the AMG calling card....kind of its unique identity. The 63 motor is a fantastic piece of engineering and has other characteristics that make it arguably a "better" engine than the 55K. However, those people who identified AMG to torque are a little disappointed given the increases in weight and reduction of torque. The 63 owners (who are extremely passionate about their cars and motors) have somewhat alienated the 55K crowd by trying to "prove" to everyone that their cars/motors are just as fast or even faster than the 55K. This has similarly happened in comparisons between the 63 engined vehicles and the 600 engined vehicles. I think some have been a little overzealous (borderline abrasive) in trying to "convince" others of the "superiority" of the 63 engines. As a bystander in this debate, I try to remain neutral and interject when I see one side or the other being a little "unfair" with their analysis. I think we are all enthusiasts and should be respectful of the amazing capabilities of all these vehicles.

Its all my fault .. LOL
wow ok CL55's are fast too , point is you wanna race a fellow Benz why bash it when you blast it? I did not pound my chest when the nice fellow in his stage one CLS 55 ran slower than my VRP 530 CLS 63? Same day same track. I fear all of the line up , my goodness.
For as many times as Jimand has dispatched the 63 you would think he would be bored by now? Honestly we have traction with the E55 crowd thanks to Marcus and Rflow and others starting to see the 63 is capable but then in the SL thread, in the CL thread we have the same "why on earth would anyone buy a 63"?
I love it , I just wish we had more tangible filmed, timed events showing this incredible performance gap between the 55/63, the 600/63 , I am not going to address the 65 vs 63 that admittedly is silly.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I read somewhere awhile back as well that the 600 engines were putting out more power than advertised as well. I lost 2 races in my e55k 1 to my sl600 and one to a Z06. IN my SL600 have lost once down in FL to some tricked out viper. POint being, 600's go like hell and they BOUNCE off the rev limiter my CL's limits me to 135. that is total

I know how fast the 600 series of cars are and I've already raced my share of high performance cars including an E60 M5 and many highly modded cars. I was just expecting more out of the 63. Maybe as speeds would have climbed the 63 would have been faster but when he started to go, it looked like he was really having a hard time moving.
I have major respect for the CL63 though; I even tried talking my father into buying one...he test drove it and was disappointed by the lack of torque...of course, that was after a test drive of an SL65.
I put Evosport shorties on recently and picked up 2mph, but I can't launch like juicee (1.69 60') so the times have been 12.2 and 12.3.
I keep hoping for some 40 degree air ... maybe in October.

Today in MD it is in the 70's...I am not sure we will have any more cool days to optimize the times. I think I should practice my launches during this period and hit the track a couple of times this spring to start getting some base line figures. Then in the fall....start shooting for the stars.

No worries about temps get some practice, nothing like having great weather and cool temps and a nice track and no seat time to take advantage. Just drive man, 60 ft time . Go race, go eat and have a couple brews whilst looking at your slips. :-). I think this place has really wisened up to "weather"
