looking to buy 01 to 03 cl55

Hey Guys I have a 02 s430 daily driver and I am looking to buy a 01 to 03 cl55 I know there was a significant HP jump (almost 200hp) from 01-02 to 03.....I found a 01 cl55 with 67K miles for sale 1-owner for $25K but I also found a 03 CL55 with 65K miles for 29K ...but it is offered by a dealer which I dont know how many onwers. How much should I really be looking to pay for for an 01-02 or an 03 ?

Thanks for any comments.

Unless you can get a warranty on the car, you should be wary of the purchase.
The car can cost you 3 to 5k overnight for airmatic suspension issues ... in addition to the other more traditional driveline problems encountered in any make.
The engine is pretty bullet proof, but I wouldn't buy it on a shoestring because it could strangle your wallet.

Ebay is a good indicator of where pricing might be and remember that it's a really slow market for these cars so hold out for your price.

When did you pay 48K ? thats would be 20K more than the one I am looking at ...thats a little bit more than extra $$$$$$...I did also find a 03 CL55 with 39K miles for $32k

It looks like you can pick these cars up for nothing. Im shocked....with an original sticker price of well over $100K 5 years later its the same price of a new Jeep Wrangler...lol. Who in the right mind (other than leasing one) would buy one of these new....I guess somebody really rich that could care less about depreciation...lol....oh well still searching for the one if anybody knows where I could get a really good deal on a 03 CL55 let me know... I decided 01-02 is not worth the headaches plus a lot less HP.

Thanks for the comments guys I will keep them close as I continue to search.

It depends what state and all.

IN Illinois Texas, and Florida seems to be the Lowest Damn Prices.

While in NY and Jersey much higher.

Do a search on auto trader right now for low mileage 03's.

14k miles = 62k
7k miles = 59k
12k miles = 49k

I would make sure the car is certified and has been serviced regularly at an MB dealership. I have been in the car industry for quite some time and I can honestly tell you that you will get what you pay for. Especially when it comes to buying a 55. The 03's have typically had less issues than 00-02. Have you looked at any of the cars in the price range you specified in person? Check for paint and body work. Pull a carfax. You might think you are getting a really good deal and then end up with a headache. Someone on this board has had nothing but problems with one that was recently purchased. You may want to talk to him. I forget his name.. It's a black CL with chrome rims in his avatar. What state are you shopping in?

Thanks for the info ...Im in Missouri I have bought a few mercedes from Chicago...but right now dont see anything worth my time to go out there . there are a few local but are 01-02 but dont like the less HP.....03 gives you almost 200hp I think that would be a better buy. My bro-in-law has a dealer license and is telling me he has seen 03 go for as low as 26K with 50K miles and in really good shape at the auctions....he said there is not too strong of a market on these cars right now???....just looking to get a nice one for a good deal im not looking to spend over 35K...

Forget the CL55. Go for a CL600 with sport package and add an ECU tune. It will give you many more smiles per hour than the 55!
