22" wheels on 03 CL55

I'm new to the board, but I have not seen any pics of CL55's with 22"s. Has anyone attempted this or is it a big NO, NO.
P.S. - I am planning on lowering the car so that its doesn't sit higher than my denali!!

Any AMG Thats Around..
i have seen them on.... the problem is usually you cant stagger them and cant go wide as you could with a 20.. so you end up with really tall and skinny wheels.... and the car seems to sit real high as well..... does not look right....

do NOT put any wheels larger than 20's on a AMG mercedes..

first off, the car is balanced perfectly with brakes etc... rotor size..
for the stock wheels, yes you can go one size up say plus 1 and its OK..

but when you start to put wheels larger than 20", you really adversely affect the handling and performace of the car..

first off, the unsprung weight goes up alot,, along with the Rotational mass of the wheels so those brakes that were designed for an 18 or 19" wheel are now having to cope with a 3 inch larger wheel, and its rotational mass and center is now altered which will increase braking distance.. and the size of the rotor and brakes as a percentage of the wheel mass is now smaller cause the wheel is larger..not to mention the height of the car, suspension angles
etc

this is exactly why you still see 15-16 inch wheels on a indy car and FOrmula 1 cars, and nascars, otherwise if it were better they would do it..

now if you decide to get 15-16 inch brembo or Millen racing brakes, that are 2-3 inches larger than your stock ones, then you could go larger, and be OK,
but still would not be optimal with suspension which is a whole story in itself I dont want to go into,, angles etc..

the largest wheel you should consider for a 06 CL on is 20 inch and that is pushing it..

for a 03 , 19 would be better cause of smaller brakes..

wheel looks like the ones you see on a magazine or car show are lowered too much and have too large rims and are just that for looks,
you cannot take those cars on a track or corner seriously, cause the 22-23 "rims are way too big and the cars are way too low..

so, get 19-20's rims, and make sure you have at least 28mm clearence between top of tire and fender.. and you shoould be OK

this GHetto trend, of slamming 100k cars , so low they wont clear a driveway,
or go round corners faster than 40 MPH, and the CLOWN CAR 22-25" rims
are made for the BAT MOBILE< or JOKER, Rap videos or a Frigg'n Circus,, not a mercedes..

Karl Daimler would be rolling in his grave. lol
ACTUNG ! VERBOTTEN !

lol just my Opinion, but backed up by alot of data, and common sense..
lol
happy motoring

Thanks for the pic. It does look kinda silly but I still think 20's look to small. The cl is a big car and even when they are lowered they still seem to have more room in the wheel well! Just my thought!

How much room in the wheel well does that have? That has 18's and is lowered.... Well lowered alot... due to a leaky strut... lol

I think 20's would look nice on the SL, but I would love to see 21's just to be different.

If you want post a side profile of your car and I'll photo shop a set of 20's and 21's on it.
