Lotus Elise SLK55
You should go all the way and buy a CL65. Prices are very low on them already, you can get a low mileage 2006 CL65 for around $70,000:

But if you're choosing between 55 and 600, get the 600. There is a huge difference in real-world power between them. You can also get the CL600 to over 600hp wit a simple ecu tune.

Regardless of what CL55 you buy ('03+), the diffs between it and the E55 are very large. The CL is considered a flagship car by MB and is treated accordingly.
The s/c cooling system on the CL has a radiator that is 4x larger than the E.
This is especially important in the summer.
The CL has the ABC suspension and while it can create problems, it makes that 4,450 pound car corner incredibly flat.
The seats on the CL are better quality and more comfortable than the E - subjective point on comfort though.
The doors on the CL have a self closing mechanism when it hits the first latch, the mirrors fold in when you park, the door hinges are like aircraft hinges.
Drive both, maybe you need 4 doors, maybe you don't.

01-03 CL55 AMG (shopping for it)
Looking for the same
Hola gentlemen!
I'm in the same situation as Sick, so I thought I'd tag onto this thread. I keep reading people say that the 03's are much more desirable than the 01-02's. Can someone highlight the differences for me? From what I've researched on my own, it looks like performance is about it (but is substantial - I'd like owner's perspectives on this if possible), and also the dynamic functions of the seats? Can someone shed some light on the further reasoning on this? When I shopped for G500/55's I was told the electrics weren't as reliable in the earlier models, is this true on the CL as well?
Thanks folks, and I look forward to joining your forum with a CL55 in the near future!

The '03 is supercharged. Does it make a difference? Only if you like sports car worthy acceleration, 0-60 in less than 4.5.
You get a heated/cooled/massage seat with lumbar and bolster support sitting on the ABC suspension which reads the speed, pitch, yaw and attitude of the car and makes constant adjustments for those factors.
Zero electronic problems for me.
