AMG Performance Stuff San Diego 28 June 08
Just got back from the AMG performance challenge in San Diego and after I drove:
- C63
- CL 63
- E63
- M63
- SL63
They gave us a bunch of free stuff. By the way the best looking car there was the CL63 however, the best performance car was the SL63. I did like the boldness of the C63. Anyway, they provided us an old school AMG hat, a coupon ($1,2 or 3K off) for the next purchase of a MBZ, a AMG card (don't know what it is used for), an AMG laynard with a cool thumbdrive. If anybody is interested please email me (maguzma@hotmail.com) with how much, not looking for a bunch of money just sombody who can use and appreciate, and I will send it as soon as I can get it to the post. By the way if you have a chance to go you must! I like to drive AMG's very hard but not my own. MAN the CL63, black on black, was the best looking car of the bunch.

Just today and it was AWESOME! They let you drive all the AMG 63's. Hardly, anybody showed up so I was able to drive the cars as much as I wanted to. The CL63 was the best looking but the SL63 was the best driving. The next stop is in LA (next week). If you want to go I could forward my access code.

No the AMG Performance Tour is free. If the event is coming to a city close to you then anticipate an online invitation. They had a C63 on a dyno and they had a competition on who can get to 0-60 and 0-100 the fastest. My first run I made it to 0-60 in 4.9 secs. The second a little better. When going from zero to 100 you changed the car to Manual (M) mode and ran it with the paddle shifters. I went to 113 miles an hour in a little over 10 secs (I think). I was pretty nervouse trying to floor it and shifting without getting it into the red while keeping an eye on the screen/road. I am sure if I was on an open road and driving somebody's elses C63 I would probably be more bolder. It was funny because they video taped each person who did the run and some of the younger guys face expression was funny. One guy looked like he was going to faint. They only schedule an hour per person but I stayed almost three hours. I really wanted to drive each of the AMG's. Next to the cars they had a CL65 (V-12 Biturbo) black on black. Talk about a beast. Too bad the car was locked.

Awesome event. Got an e-mail invitation with online invite code.
Next their taking the AMG road-show to West Covina and then they'll be at Fletcher Jones in Newport. Don't miss out for a chance to drive the entire 6.3 line.

Your are correct, talked with the lady who was at the C63's and she said that SD was the second stop and they are going to do 23 more. At least three more in SOCAL. Since my brother lives in LA I am probably going again next weekend to get some more stuff and drive the SL/CL63 again. As I mentioned earlier, I stayed almost three hours so I could get behind the wheels of all those AMG's. I sat down and priced each car that I drove and added the total amount. If you drove only four of the five cars you drove nearly $400,000.00. But if you add up the cars that I sat in, SLR, CLK63 Black series, S63, CLS63 then were talking 7 figures. I did not count the ML63 becaus I could not bring myself to drive a SUV that gets 11 gallons to the mile.

That sounds like a blast. I wonder if they are coming to AZ. If not I would be happy to go to LA.....

I guess if you were or a current owner of a MBZ then you get an invite.
I got mine from MBZ of SD. MBZ of SD has outstanding cutomer service and I loved taking my cars for the "A" and "B" services. Never paid anything out of pocket, gave me almost free loaner cars and let me sit and test drive any cars while I was waiting. So I would suggest go to the "AMG Performance Tour" website and call the contact number the person on the other end will list their next 23 events/cities. Then you can ask for an invite.
By the way, I just got my Car and Driver magazine and they have an article on the new SL63. The one in the article is almost identicle to the one I drove. And what they say about the car is spot on. Speaking of SL63, all I know is when I took it on the freeway and punched it I was going 80MPH in second gear. Never made it to fourth. I feel sorry for the Toyota Pirus that I passed. Probably gave the person a Hybrid heart attack...

Most of the AMG's I saw at the event had the same rims. They were the silver and dark gray insert on the stars. But the S63/CLS65 and CL65 had the same AMG rims. Nothing too special. I liked the rims on the C63 and CLK63 black the best. All the pictures I have on the CL65 BITurbo are posted above.

The best thing to do for anybody who wants to go is to go to the following website:
https://www.mbevents.com/amgperforma...r/Default.aspx
Then click on the "Contacts" folder and call the 1-800 number and ask for an invitation. They will be more than happy to supply you the location, times and access number. If you have a problem accessing website use the following code: Invitation Number: ZB45092. Good luck and have fun because I did. As I said earlier I sat in and/or drove over a million dollars worth of cars in a couple of hours. I felt like a rock star!
