CL65 Battery group size or dimensions?

I've been reading complaints about short battery life but I have not been able to find any specs on the OEM battery. I've used sealed Odyssey batteries with great results and I'd like to see if they have one that would be compatible.

For those interested, I finally found the info. The battery is a group 49. It appears that MB has moved to an AGM battery that is far superior to the lead acid.

The best battery would be the Deka European Performance Battery
9AGM49 - AGM Battery. http://www.autobarn.net/eas9agm49.html This is much cheaper than the MB branded battery. AGM batteries will maintain a charge for two years, last on average twice as long as conventional batteries, and are totally sealed.

That said, I needed a battery ASAP so I purchased an Exide manufactured battery at Wally world for $75 that matches the OEM specs. Next time I will plan ahead and have a spare battery waiting at home.

why would you want to keep a battery at home? It will end up expiring. Just use your roadside assistance that is free for the life of the vehicle if you get stranded then buy a new battery.

AGM batteries don't "expire" like lead acid. They will maintain their charge for two years in storage. These are what the military use due to their ruggedness and reliability.

Roadside assistance is not a good option for me. I live two hours frm the nearest dealer. They won't deliver a battery and my time is too valuable to waste driving to a MB dealer for an OEM battery.

http://www.westcobattery.com/faqs.html

LONG SHELF LIFE - low self-discharge rates permits storage of fully charged batteries for up to 8-10 months at room temperature before needing to recharge.

http://www.ebatteriestogo.com/AGM_Batteries.htm

Slower self discharge rate (longer shelf life) means battery can sit for extended periods of time without constant monitoring. A wet battery discharges 15% a month, where our AGM batteries discharge only 2-3% a month.

your new battery should last you about 5 years, by then your shelf battery would have expired. I hear you on the 2 hours away part.

I had misread the two year storage. It will need a charge but it will not degrade the battery like lead acid.

The date code on my current, dead RIP, battery is 6/08 so I sincerely doubt that I will get 5 years out of this battery. The AGM battery has roughly double the service life of lead acid. I would rather wait a few years, have a spare battery available than have another dead battery over a holiday weekend and have to settle for a second rate replacement. My Lexus LX470 OEM battery was 7 years old w/o problem but I replaced it with an AGM. With winter approaching I did not want to get stuck at 3 a.m. I have a battery pack jumper in my Porsche but this route is preferable to having one in every vehicle. An ounce of prevention.....

Sounds good I just wanted you to know about the shelf life so you don't end up in the same situation again thinking you have a charged battery. I sell a lot of these batteries and usually the OEM ones last about five years. Not really sure how long yours will last.
