The car is listed as being in NYC...and looking up the telephone #...belongs to a Walgreen in Texas. Either it is a fake ad...or the guy was stuck at the Walgreen getting huge quantities of Pepto Bismol to combat the upset stomach resulting from the CL65's mega-depreciation...

A lot of ads on Autotrader.com like this one, most of them are Mercedes AMG car or BMW M5, M6 and M3 with very low price (half of market price), email the owner, they always said they are in the Navy or Airforce or something and can't show you the car,but they did show you the VIN# and some car pics. they never reply when I ask pic of the title with the match VIN#. I believe people these days are smarter. You can see those car are really someone else's car, just NOT belong to the the who are try to sell it on autotrader.com

Watch out ! A certain member might come in here blabbering about the insanity you're causing with your post being in the wrong sub-forum of the site ! ! ! LMFAO ! ! !

Seriously though, that does seem like the usual scam on autotrader. Pretty much anything that has " email me @ ... " is a scam on there. Kind of sucks though. I wonder if people really fall for that ?

2005 C55
It is most definitely a scam. I had already decided that i was going to purchase a CL55 and it was an almost identical listing. First off, the guy said that the car would not be available for viewing, because he was in vacation in Hawaii and wanted the car sold before he returned. Also the car was listed as being in Fleming Island Florida, but the guy told me that the car was in Reno Nevada, ready for shipping. They also try to make you feel at ease abt the purchase but telling you it is going to be done through the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program, although the car wasn't even listed on eBay. I figured out it was a scam so i requested some very detailed info about the car. This is what he replied...

Here is how the process works:
Like I said before, I will need your full name, shipping address and phone#
- I will forward your info to eBay Motors VPP and we will wait for approval.
- they will send you the invoice with payment details for our transaction. They will request you a deposit of 35% of the total amount prior delivery.
- the transaction will be handled by an ebay motors agent.
- As soon as I have eBay Motors VPP's confirmation, I will start the shipping process.
- The car will be delivered within 5 days and, as I have mentioned you before, you have a 5 days inspection period. If the car is not in excellent condition as I said, you will be completely refunded.
- If the vehicle passes your survey, you will have 2 business days to send the remaining balance.
The money will be locked in the eBay VPP system and they will release the payment to me only with your approval and only after the car is registered in your name with a proper executed title.
If we have a deal, please reply with the requested info.
Thank you for your time.

I told him to take his scam and shove it.

'05 CL65, '07 Pathfinder, '97 SL600 (sold), 23 other cars (sold)
about 2 years ago, as I just decided to dump my SL600 for 4 seater, and started shopping for CL65, I came across autotrader ad for 2005 CL65, offered at ~47K (about half of market value at the time), black on black with 7k and valid VIN#, pics, everything. However, as I did some basic checking, the vehicle was in upstate New York (based on seller's phone #), but VIN stated it's one owner car, and registered in Georgia. Back than, Tom (seller) was also BS'ing me about ebay motors VVP, but it wasn't 35% down, it was actually a full payment upfront, as he claimed it was a charity sale, etc., plus, that's why I cannot see the car, but do have 5 days, etc. Funniest of all, (and by than I've already realized it was a con, but tried to push him to reveal a bit more info), he provided me with full bank/account information, bank location - Prague.
Of course, I gladly took everything, and reported him to www.ic3.gov (this is FBI partner entity, dealing with internet crime, such as this one). Perhaps, he could use fast wheels now...
