Hey guys,

I'm looking for either a used SL65 or CL65. The year isn't very important to me and neither are options. I prefer black but if it's a good deal I'll budge.

Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a CL65?

Like I said, miles/year dont matter very much if I'm getting a bargain on it.

If possible I'd like one with an extended warranty.

Anyone know how much I should be prepared to spend?

Oops, fat fingers on my part on the mileage... sorry about that.

Should you want to buy over the internet, insure that you have a PPI done on the car, and with this car I suggest MB dealership for that inspection.

And another thing... how does the CL65 handle compared to the 2006 E55? I dont plan on going around a track or anything, but I do take Benedict/Mullholland Canyon to see my GF once in a while.

I saw and liked that one also. If it is any help, I went to look and drove the one listed above that has 38k miles here in Houston. It seemed decent but it is very dusty from the pollen and I want to go see it again Saturday. Will give you more updates then and want to drive it on something other than the straight line freeway. I can tell you it needs new tires like 3k miles ago.

As for warranties, an extended warranty usually is a better deal when the car still has factory warranty remaining. So extending one as you mention will likely be less than getting one on the one with 38k miles on which the warranty expired due to time as I already checked.

One additional item I will mention about pictures I find on ebay that you may already know. The resolution is usually low and details are masked. What may appear to be a decent looking driver seat ends up with wrinkles and marks that are not seen in the pictures. 20k seats end up looking like 50k of wear when you seen them in person.

Also, paint is rarely as good as it looks in the picture(same goes for this local one) I pride myself on detailing and not one car I have seen in person versus the pictures tells the true story. Especially black!

I would be hard pressed to buy on ebay unless somebody local looked at it for me and knows a benchmark upon which it can be compared.

Will have more info after Saturday.

I have absolutely no doubt that you will take care of me. My favorite thing about this forum is that people here always help eachother out. Good luck man, CL65 is one of the best cars ever made, imo. Like everybody else said, make sure it gets inspected or at least doesn't seem to be damaged.

Follow up from last week as promised.

I drove the second one listed above again. This time it was on some city streets to see handling, etc. All seemed fine to me. A/C is very cold, seat functions work. Windows seem to operate fine, including the back ones.

One issue I believe I noticed is the lower fascia has probably been repainted as it was not perfectly smooth or some dirt was in the paint when sprayed. Not terrible looking and may have been done to cover rock chips. Possibly the burrs could be wetsanded down but I am not an expert on body work.
There are minor scuffs but should come out with the rotary buffer. One not so good looking touch up on the hood maybe an inch or so.

Inside pretty good, seat wear is not bad for age/mileage.

Not sure what I want to do with it, I just noticed another one on ebay ended with 44k starting price and no bids and fewer miles than this one.

I am told this particular one is 45k or perhaps 1k less at auctions these days.

So knowing it needs $1,500 of tires after buying it and not knowing anything else, I might be interested at 44k or less but not sure how anxious they are to let it go. At 43k or 43.5k, I think it would be well worth it.

I'm actually considering selling my '05 CL65, 25k, black/black, flawless, warranty till April 2010. All original, no messing with, no racing, tuning, etc., just the way it was sold in 2006. Brand new tires (Goodyear Eagle F1) with about 100 miles on. Always serviced at Ray Catena. I'm in New York City area. Although, I won't consider bargain offers, serious inquiries welcome. If I won't sell it, it's ok, I love this car, it's just I feel I want to go back to SL (had SL600 prior to this one).
