Lower with links

Hi all,

I would like to lower my 05' CL55 with the adjustable air ride but wonder if this would cause the ABC going bad. Am I looking for trouble here? Thanks.

if you have doubt, dont do it. leave it stock..do it at your own risk..considering abc system is expensive to fix..

my car is slammed with links..no problem so far almost a year now.... then again im prepare to fix any problem if it break down on me..

How do you deal with the alignment? I lowered my SL only 1 in. (1.5 in max) and the alignment never got straight. It's about 1.8 degree toe in.

i do my own alignment with string etc.....because my drop i can't drive up to any alignment rack..hehehehehe

there's some trick you can do to straighten the steering wheel. after alignment.. test driving and readjust the steering wheel....probably the guy who did your car last time didnt' care..or they don't know how to do it..

well..depend how much drop you want..tires wear will increase..just make sure the toe is correct to spec..and prepare to replace tires sooner

good luck..

Thanks. I am not that good to do the alignment myself ... the two [different] places I went, the results were the same for the SL alignment. They said they'd try their best but ...

Look at the bright side, I can corner 60 mph :-) with the SL.

yeah thats what they all say.. well i notice if they adjust to factory specs..the car tend to drift and sometimes steering off center..but if there's a lil bit of "toe-in" the car feels better and it drive straight ..handle better too ..

Lowered an inch and half (or so) with links two years ago. No problems w/ suspension. Slight negative camber beyond the point that can be adjusted, but not something that visually jumps out at you. Tires wear a little faster than usual but I'm OK with that.

I just lowered the car on links not to long ago. Only thing that I am not cool with is it rides a bit rough. I have mine on the highest setting with both lights on and it is still a bit low with minor rubbing. With the ABC off I am tucked (for parking/wow factor). So far so good, no problems.
I used adjustable links from Mercedes, here is the part number I used (A 220 320 00 32).
I bought two for each side. Price was $27.00

I replaced tires on my 03 CL55 with 275V40R18 in the rear and 245's in front recently, the car looks wider but it started to drift and it doesn't drive as tight and straight as before, any answers please. Thanks

damn 275" are big...stock is like 255' rear .. 245" front..

after replacing tires you have to do alignment again...

recommended every 15k..

or even if you hit a curve, that will through the alignment off..

S600 was pretty low...had it dropped like that for a bit over 2 years. only problem was tire wear, which is a given. My ABC pump was whining before i traded it in but then again the car was an 01 so I doubt it had anything to do with the lowering.

few pics to see height

Nice ... I don't need mine to be that low though ... just an inch or 1.5 inches lower than the lowest stock would be perfect for me.

Thanks for the confirmation everybody!

THANKS! The part number you mentioned A 220 320 00 32, was it for the front or rear? As I understood, the front and rear links are different. How can they have the same part number? Please advice.

Thanks much in advance!

Mercedes have always had a pulling problem. We have this Co in the UK that specialises in that MB problem www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk have a look. Scroll down the the MB section, makes interesting reading.

Keep in mind you can adjust how low it is. I drive mine around with the suspension in the 'low' setting and it does fine. I sometimes raise it on the freeway where the car drops a bit more on its own. Also, the outer limit on the CL55 for the rear tires to not have them stick out, is probably mine at 305s rear. CL55 will take a wider tire than all other 215s (even the CL65 which is unfortunate because I would like to upgrade and keep my Brabus)

Still have not got around to adjusting it... he he
Next time around tires might have to go on a diet.

The two links are going to be for the front.
