lowering ABC & AIRMATIC II (photos)
hi guys!
At first: I am a new member here at this forum from Stuttgart, Germany
I hope I can be helpful to you about lowering the AIRMATIC II and ABC systems.
I have the new E 55 AMG V8K (W211) and I am going to lower it about 60 - 70 millimetres.
Here in Germany there are 2 ways to do this:
1.) You could lower your car by the electronical way. Which means that the "Steuergerät" (sorry but I don`t know the english word for the electronical "head" of the car) must be manipulated by the computer with an external "mini-Steuergerät"
costs: about 1.000,-€
the problem: not all systems allow to lift the car higher again by the driver. It means that your car will always be low.
By the way your warranty is lost.
2.) It could be mechanical. A specialist here in Germany, called MARIANI is the best u could go with your car to get it lower.
The driver could still lift the car at about 40 ~ 60 millimetres.
You tell him how you want your car and he is doing that.
I am gonna send U pictures when my car is finished by him.

2003 CL55
What are the wheels on the CL and what size are they and the tires? Also, are any modifications necessary to mount the larger wheels? The CL looks quite stunning, but is far too low for public road driving in the US.

9,5 x 18 with 265/35 ZR18
11 x 18 with 285/35 ZR18
following modifications on the car on the picture:
lowered 60 millimetres
U have also to do another modification:
sorry, but I cannot explained it in english, but I am trying to do:
you must work at the ........ (donßt know the english work), that there is enough space for the tires when u drive fast.
I think u call it wings.
That costs for all 4 wings about 400 €.

Thank you for the wheel and tire sizes. Who is the manufacturer of the wheels?
When the car is lowered 60mm the wheel wells probably need to be enlarged. It does not look like the fenders were modified. If wheel well modifications can be done for only about 400 Euros that is a good deal.
