CL55 STAR Inspection repair bill

I got the extensive Star vehicle inspection done on my car and here's what they got:

- SRS light on. Cleared codes if returns further diagnosis is required. $120.00
- Checking of ABC system, L/F Strut (boot torn and play in top mount and is leaking) $2260.00
- Recommend ABC System Flush and replace filter $653.00
- Replace Both drive belts $240.00
- Front brake pads are down to metal to metal replace pads/rotors $1549.00
- Rear Pads/rotors replace (1mm close sensor) $640.00
- Rear tires bald $1023.00 Bridgestone Potenza P275/40R18 99Y
- False reading Oil level warning coming on replace oil level switch $463.00
- L/F Ball joint 2-3mm movement (replace by next service) $409.00
- Wiper blades smearing $133.20

Total Bill: $7490 + Taxes CAD

Are these prices reasonable from the dealer? Or should I shop around and make some stuff DIY?

The brakes, tires and wiper blades are things you should be able to do yourself. That would take a HUGE chunk out of that quote. Isn't there software you can buy from Mercedes with maintenance instructions that all the techs use? If I ever buy a CL I'd want to look into that since I'm a very hand on kinda guy and can't imagine spending that kind of cash on something I can easily do myself.

look for another dealer.

they are charging you an hour of labor for an srs clear. it is a 10 minute thing.

btw, if hard codes are thrown- you have bigger problems most likely...

Also, dealers LOVE to scare people about rotors. The truth of the matter is that rotors last a looooong time! Just get the brake pads and DIY! I did mine at a local shop. Took the guy 30 min for the fronts! 80$. I'm sure you can do it yourself. As far as tires go, look for your sizes on kijiji, if I recall correctly, I saw a few! Plus you are putting ur winters on soon anyway. All the other stuff, drive belts, suspension, I'd do it at Mike's. Keep me updated. I'll try to help out as much as I can...

Forgot to update this. So I got a second opinion from another dealer and this is what they had reported:
- Flush ABC system (done)
- Strut boot replaced, strut is FINE and NOT leaking.
- Belts fine
- Front pads and rotors replaced, rears rotors fine but pads replaced.
- Oil level sensor is FINE, level checked manually and through SDS. Working fine.
- L/F tie rod end replaced.
- Wipers replaced.

Total was just under 2 grand, including the new tires.

Did you ever get that SRS issue sorted out? I've been looking into that for my S. Research makes me think either defective seat belt tensioner or, more likely, the seat buckle itself goes bad, so the car is confused as to whether you're strapped in or not. Any help here is appreciated.

Also, glad you got some sanity on the above repair.

Best,

maw

You may want to call MB Canada and possibly your local prosecutor. They were trying to rob you!

Interesting. My stealership (whom I actually trust, believe it or not, just not their prices) thinks it's the tensioner, because of the incessant clicking in the B pillar. The tensioner is also what the manual cites. I'll start there, because it's only $60. The buckle is, like, $350, I think.

Thanks for the help Viet. I'll update all.

Wow, that is quite the difference in service quotes....I'm in the GTA and would like to know who the respective dealers were.

What dealership gave the inflated estimate and who gave you the truthful estimate?

Thanks.

Just wanted to update you all on this. Well, when I took it in to get it fixed, suddenly the stealership thought it was the whole seat belt. Well, I pulled an audible and told them to replace the $60 tensioner. That cured it.
