Original W215 CL 65 front wheel

Last week I thought I had a puncture, the dash said that the LF was going down, by the time I got to the dealer is was 28PSI.

After removing the wheel and looking for a nail we found that the inside vertical edge that buds up to the tire was cracked. That lip is about 1/2" cracked 1/2" all the way to the flat part.

The dealer said it could not be repaired so I got a new wheel.

Ahum.... $2350.00 with taxes! Are these made of Palladium?
Anyway I still have the cracked rim, do people still repair that kind of crack, so I have a spare?

Is this thing worth anything cracked or do I melt it into a neckless?

I'll take some pics tomorrow.

Those may be interesting but will have to be made scratch free.

I could not find the thread, but I think it hads been discussed thay these rims crack easily. I mean here in south florida I never hit a pothole or anything, never crecked or bent a wheel before.

I wonder if I can get the cracked one repaired..

I had the same thing last year, tiny hairline crack... front right rim. Checked the dealer first (of course), got the same exact quote (rear is 2600+tax, btw), and went to eBay to get myself the rim itself for about 400-500 (with practically no signs of wear). Still have the bad rim in my garage, asked around incl. pro shop that does all kinds of custom rim works, nobody wants to repair it (although, some state that it's possible, but risky).

Should I bother getting it repaired, or is it only usable as a coffee table base?

I've had aluminum wheels repaired on other cars without problems. If they're aluminum (I don't know what they're made of), make sure you find someone who's familiar with welding aluminum. If it's not done properly the weld can crack, but if it's done right you won't have to worry about it.

I personally would not trust a repaired wheel. But that is just me. I would mount that cracked wheel on the garage wall and use it to wrap the compressor hose around or something.

Same from me.
I am happy to recieve PMs but not if they are merely questions that can go on the forum.
So if you are going to pm me, you had better make it really personal..... ? ? ? ?

Here are the pics:
fixing a cracked wheel usually ruins the structural integrity of the wheel and will usually crack again. i fixed my cracked wheels on my 02 and they just kept re-cracking. most places won't even do it. only 1 place in las vegas offered to give it a shot and they were skeptical. it's a tough call, $2,300 is alot to spend on 1 oem wheel but trying to fix it and have it re-cracked while driving your $180k machine is risky. make it a $2,300 glass coffee table
