2011 Porsche 911 turbo s vs GTR opinions

I was just reading an article on the new 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S....

Double clutch tranny----composite brakes
$170k msrp

Now after reading the article....I saw the specs...
1/4 10.8
0-60 2.9 sec

I realized that a $80k GTR runs with a Y-pipe or not and a tune a
1/4 10.8
0-60 2.5 sec.

So the 911 at a $100k more is still just a joke by comparison?
YES

Sorry but as seeing many 997's and seeing the interiors literally peeling away..yes many that I have come across have had excessive wear from poor interior that the door area, shifter area and so on were peeling and wearing away..as well as the harsh noisy ride and rattling interior

I know the GTR interior is cheap..no doubt..but it is also functional and fitting for a sportscar of its price.... but one that had 42k miles on it and used by magazines still had almost no wear on the inside...

Am I picking on the 911? YES....
I do not think Porsche will change their incredibly aging 911 ...it still looks like a squashed VW beetle since the 70's

what is your point?

0-60?
1/4 mile?

those numbers can be obtained for far less money by far more plebeian cars if that was the goal. by that logic a gtr must be true heap of junk as for 75k it cant break into the 9s and a lowly vette with a tt setup costing overall less than 75k can...

the pedigree of a sports car shines through its overall handling and rewarding the driver with proper feedback. in that sense the gtr is very unrewarding to drive as electronics mask everything, but weight. sure, it will throw some good numbers, but the driver would not be rewarded in the process.

on the same token the newer turbos are very rewarding to drive as they just "sit" properly on the road and their moves are intuitive as well as having superior feedback which delights aggressive drivers.

so.. again- what is your point?

I've owned numerous Porsches over the years dating back to the early 90s and have never had a problem with reliability or quality. If you check the charts Porsche is #1 in quality, the interiors are fabulous and do not show age until a massive amount of miles have been accumulated.

Well said, and frankly over on the porsche boards you don't see merc bashing like this.

As far as I'm concerned, they are best two brands out there.

Grow up people!

If your posting to decide which one to buy, I would take the Nissan as daily driver, then again I replaced it with a (Uses) Cl65, to be just as fast and more comfy with leather everywhere.

If you take it to the track take the Porsche, then again, I took GT3RS over the TT..

The interior of a GTR looks fine, nice leather, nice look, the Porsche not so much leather, but you can buy it. personally I like the plain, clean look of a base Porsche interior..

I do get lot's of compliments on my squashed beetle, it still seems pleasing to the eye to most..

Bone stock 911 Turbo PDK (not the Turbo S) vs an HKS570 GT-R. Enjoy:

If you can 997TT or even the new GT2 RS. If you can't the Nissan is an excellent alternative!

if you track the car, GTR is an experiment. The Porsche will hold up, no problem.

Whats the point- this makes about as much sense as someone who compares/makes a 40k mustang faster than a 90k E55. Who cares- those can afford one buy one and those who can afford the other, buy that car.

I can afford both so I have both but price was not the reason for either car. Im sure that there are richer who choose to take the GT-R and those who are poorer who want the Pcar with its heritage. Money is relative.

Also I have priced some of the PDKs and they are not so bad with reasonable adds. The 170k car you state is probably got every single item on it. One cant compare the addendums on Porsche to a GT-R- its apples and oranges. The GT-R has how many options? Hey dont get me wrong I love both cars and they serve their purposes for me. The GT-R is a great car for the money and again its all relative because the 997 I have is a great car for the money also.

With that being said, I happily spend the 150k for the 997TT and enjoy the stock times it produces. I just am currently very satisfied with my 997.1TT and the mods on it.

Are you not going thru this dialogue in yet another forum? I could have sworn I saw you going at it with a bunch of members in another community- probably 6speedonline.com?

I am talking about the cars as a comparison--

I DO NOT like Porsche....I have had a GT2-GT3 and a few 997's....Not a big fan of the cars.....
Do I think a GTR is a better car? For the money yes...if a GTR was $150k...I would still choose the GTR....why? There is a 997 at every car show...and i see one a few times daily...the style has been overrated for years....YEARS!

And to say a $170k p-car that looks no different then a 2000 model or later that is lighter yet equally as quick as a GTR...SAYS SOMETHING about what Porsche has done with their halo car over the evolving years....NOTHING

Again this is my opinion...

YES MY GTR by the way clocks 0-60 in 2.5 sec.....why is this so hard to understand...it has a tune and y-pipe........

I DO NOT like Japanese cars.

I presently own/lease a 997.5 TT, 997.2 C4S, and a CL63. Over past 20 years I have owned many mercs, porsches, and ferrari's including a F40. So, you are of course entitled to your opinion is just that you're TOTALLY WRONG!!!

BTW the fit and finnish of the turbo interior is nicer and higher quality than the benz or any of the f's.

This is all great- your opinion (thank god its just yours) but wtf does it have to do with the CL forum or the benz forum in general. Go campaign somewhere else.

Try OT- we have one.
