Sorry, I just like adding a little accelerant to any fire. I am not picking sides (but if I was, I am calling your side. He is clearly an a*s and a troll.

You all have been pretty funny !

I got on here trying to get a idea of what I was going to have to fix when buying a high mileage 91k 06 CL65 -- what I got was a lot more... some good some bs with a mix of both. I have not owned a 65 - I have owned a 07 R500 that I have put 65k on in 4years - several pump failures brakes trans issue - expensive vs fixing my country boy Mustang toys - but when I want to drive from Guadalajara mexico to indianapolis IN and back which i have done several times - I want my Mercedes - I can run 120-140 for a long time worry free. Thus my interest in this CL65 - moral to the story you take your chances - life is a choice - I like the looks of the 06 CL65 - I don't like paying 5000 for rotors - then again I didn't like putting out 7500 for a set of AP brakes on 05 Ford GT to make me feel safer coming down off a 220 mph. I am still on the fence about this CL65 but it sure may be a fun ride to take to the limits on my next trip to Mexico.

Back to topic hopefully.

I made a big mistake buying a 216 after three years with my 215.

The figures quoted for UK delivery were 27 total 2005/2006 and 28 total 2008/2009 up to facelift presumably 2010 m/y

Regular servicing on 215 cost me £2400 over 3 years plus rear tyres.

If you can buy it right and keep it in MB service you stand a good chance of getting all your money back after a couple of years. Right now there is only one 216 model for sale in the UK and zero 215s

I'm fortunate that I don't do big miles.

Why do say the 216 was a big mistake? Has it been more expensive to maintain or do you just prefer the 215?

I think the 215 was by far the best looking coupe MB ever produced. The 216 has very few , if any , styling cues from the 215 , almost change for change sake.
Pedestrian laws dictated the redesign of the bonnet (hood?) and its opening mechanism and from there everything went wrong. The bubble front wheelarch seems to be a Chrysler styling (as per Voyager UK model ) and and has little to do with the rest of the cars profile....the rear wheelarch is hideous nand the tailend is too short.

The power is similar but the car doesn't seem to be keen to go, it just feels a bit "retired CEO " sort of transport.

All that said, it still turns heads and it's a comfortable ride.

The only sign of trouble is that since the last major service at 35000 miles it has displayed two "low oil " warnings and the last one required 1.5 litres. I had this done by MB who serviced the car 600 miles ago and still await an explanation.

My kids say that the cars cool , it's just me that got old without realising.

Hello from France

What else can I add ?

Well, it's been almost 7 years now that we bought our CL 65 AMG (C215).
Now 50 000 miles on the clock. Pure happiness.

In my opinion, it is one of the best looking Mercedes of all time.
Plus, it has one of the best engines ever made.
And finally, it is incrediblely rare.

We own one of the 9 (yes, nine !) units built for France in 2004/2005.
We'll keep this Beauty as long as possible. It gets more and more better looking as time goes by. And it turns head more and more, already a classic.

12 years after it was first built (Germany got the first ones in autumn 2003 and in France in January 2004 as ours which was the first one to be imported to France), it allow me to destroy Nissan GT-R, Porsche 997 Turbo, C 63 BS, GT3 RS, F430... and so many others, in such a comfort.

This car is a pure Rocket and is so beautiful.
No doubt that in a few years, value will start increasing.

By the way, does anybody know the production numbers world-wide ?
I read sometimes 194 but don't know if it is for US market only.

I read somewhere, I do not recall where, total world production of W215 CL65's was 777. I believe 192 or 194 of those were for the USA. I could be wrong as this is info I found on the internet and we all know how reliable that is.

Hi Matt,

Ok thanks for the information.

Confirmation here on page 76, it is 777 for sure : http://media.daimler.com/Projects/c2...sse_e_2010.pdf

777 is really nothing... 194 for US market, that's 583 for the rest of the world.
For sure there was only 9 in France. Biggest european market for sure was Germany, then I guess UK in RHD, and also Italy.
