Stock CL65 VS Modded C5 Z06

I recently raced a modded Z06 with my stock CL65 and we were dead even. His mods are intake, headers, full exhaust and tuner. It was about 18 degree's Celcuis out and we went from a 60km/h roll. He had a passanger where I was alone.

Now should I have beaten him or was the outcome correct? My car didn't feel as fast as it normally does but its either it was heat soaked and my intercooler pump is taking a crap or I am getting used to the car. What do you guys think?

What year was the z06? With the listed mods a recent year z06 should be a smudge faster. Especially if you are heat soaked...

Or you have a very strong car and his tune is not so good.

Sounds about right. With heads and cam it would eat your lunch. Those LS6's have a lot of potential.

What are stock CL65's putting down to the rear wheels? I'm guessing somewhere around 515-525hp? Just for reference h/c C5 Z06's are typically 450-500rwhp depending on tune, and about 1,750lbs lighter than a CL65. I'm guessing this guy was in the 400-425rwhp range.

I thought this was an old thread revived from the dead....He couldn't get a more accurate comparison than one from 02cl55amg.

HaHa.... I think the thing with a CL65 either stock or tuned they are still very quiet with stock exhaust. You can have a heads and cam car next to you at about 3,500-4,000 rpms and you will barely hear anything out of the CL65 at WOT. If both cars are pulling hard you will think your car is slow until you look down at the speedo. Again these cars are fast, and like anything else there is always something faster. If you like your 65 you got it for the whole package. I love the fact that I can have a bunch of drinks and not have to worry about my wife driving my car with a tune. The Vette will be a beast but more likely to end up in a ditch in the wrong hands. Everybody has their preferences...Some are lucky enough to have both (02cl55amg). So OP continue to shock people, check your I/C pump and get a tune, you won't regret it.

I agree that the CL65 is fast. I love the car and like you said my wife can drive it and its still just a sane benz until you step into it. The problem is that I have a 670rwhp supra, buts its manual transmission so it feels fast but the benz is a auto so there is no seperation between shifts and it just pulls like crazy.

On a side note I just found the mods done to the vette:

Engine Specifications:
-2002 LS6
-5.7 OHV, pushrod V8,
-Cast aluminum block

Engine Misc.:
-Callaway cold air intake
-FAST 90 intake
-LS2 throttle Body
-AFR 205 mongoose heads (62cc)
-8019 upgraded valve springs
-LS7 Lifters
-Comp Cam 228/230 hydraulic roller camshaft
-MSD plug wires
-Ported high flow oil pump
-Single Roller timing set with Torrington bearing
-Powerbond 25% under-drive crank pulley
-Corvette Mods PVC Paper Oil Separator

Fuel & Tuning:
-Custom Dyno Tuned By Horsepower Solutions

Driveline
-MGW Short Throw Shifter
-Hurst 2" Ballard ball Shift Knob
-Fireball Fabrications 1/4" Tunnel Plate

Exhaust:
-LG Pro Long Tube Headers with cats
-XSpower 2.5" Axle Back Exhaust

I'm assuming with those mods he's around the 420-440rwhp? I don't know. I'll let someone else that knows better than I chime in.

Ill be honest, I am surprised he did not pull on you. That is a substantial mod list for that vette and should be trapping over 120.

Stock 02-04 C5Z's have gone as fast as high 11's at 118. When I had my 04 Z06 with just intake, pnp tb and a mild tune it was no slouch at all.

c5 vettes are no slouch, but are not in the same league with a stock cl65 even when modded. i know of a guy here in vegas with an 03 z with that almost the exact mod list. h/c/i put down about 450rwhp and this one ran 11.6@118 with a great driver. another h/c/i +4:10(440rwhp) c5 z goes 11.8@120. my brand x tune cl65 went 11.52@121 on tire and started pulling brutally hard from 100. i ordered the go pro camera. it will be mounted on the back of the 65 against my z. to 160 it will be close, after that-zo6 goes bye bye

I would think they are in the same league as guy just stated that this modded one ran even with his stock CL65.

So with a Tune you trapped 121? and the modded Z was at 120? That is still pretty close.

Been to GLD, US41, and Byron many times. Only ever had the chance to see a CL65 run once. It trapped 118. Never spoke to the owner. I'm just pleasantly surprised that vette did not pull on a stock CL65.

As far as 160+ runs I have no experience. That is crazy!

Sorry for off topic question, but how would your CL65 Compare to a modded 997T?

have no exp with running any tt p car's. friend of mine just got a gtr and will test against it- i know with exhaust and tune they run high 10's @129. my last run was against a 04 c5z with a 416 makin 540hp/500tq. got him by 1 car from 50-120, im sure it would have gotten worse the faster we went. a week later i went 10.98@126.5-full mods. trying to figure what else i can do to squeak out a few more mph. dont want to go off topic and hijack the guys thread. i just love shocking the loud muscle cars with the benz. biggest problem is heat soak. once intake temps see 140(which is in no time without efficient cooling) it will pull timing and make the car feel like a turd. im thinking methanol for the fall/winter. sometimes the dr's will break loose at 90mph, sometimes they wont spin at 50-go figure, car is not very consistant. to answer radride, 1st- get your intercooler pump checked or replace with a better unit like a johnson cm30. 2nd- get a baseline of what you run stock. 3rd-mod up and suprise them all while heating and massaging your a$$. bottem line, you would have gotten beat if he did not have a passenger. bolt on c5z/c6 vette only dyno 360-380. had h/c/i c5(400rwhp-115mph), cammed c5z(415rwhp 116mph) and a full exhaust, cai & tuned c6(365rwhp-114mph) -in closing, being beat by a bolt on c5z....is unexcepable. J/K. have fun and be safe

cl65 vs c5z race video

here's a nice little 1/4 mi race against a brand x tuned cl65 vs a 383 c5z(not the same z in the freeway race)
my car made 555rwhp and weighs 4800lbs with me in it!!!
03 c5z makin 490rwhp/460tq. best motor run. cuts a 1.57 60ft on the motor!!!

http://www.youtube.com/user/Partyboy...29/sMYWZ1mLZDQ

my eurocharged tune, K&n filters, full exhaust and trunk res beat this z by 4 cars from 50-160. i ran a best of 11.1@125 at the time

Do think then that I am underpowered? Should I be changing something out?
