Hey guys, I saw an item on eBay that you don't normally see for our cars; the OEM rear refrigerator/coolbox:

So I won the auction. Thing Is, it's a European spec fridge, and I have a US spec car. Will it work? Does that make a difference? I know it will definitely fit in the console where it's supposed to go, but is there anything blocking the space between the console and trunk area? Or should this be fairly simple installation, wiring, disassembling trunk area etc..

I think you're on your own with this one. I think wiring it in is going to be the biggest problem unless the wiring harness has a spot to plug this thing in to. Let us know how it turns out.

I know someone that can install that for you. I don't want to break any forum rules so I won't post here but this guy I know has installed some crazy stuff in the past. This and performance mods are right in his field of expertise. Send me a pm with your email and I will get him to email ya. Good luck

Cool add-on

Since its powered by a lighter socket you could just install another lighter circuit and surely fuse the unit as well.
I didn't like how my 65 only has one power outlet and didn't like to plug in things in the center of the dash area where it's located. I opened up the ash tray area and installed a second power adapter that pig-tails out on the floor at the corner of the driver seat. that way I can plug in a devise and keep it out of the way.
I would however run a dedicated power supply (lightly fused) and relay it to the ignition switch so if anything happens you can keep it away from the cars circuits.

I'm sure this frig is operated off a basic 12volt circuit, so i wouldn't see any problems wiring it in, only problem i can think of is that the gas tank is right behind the back seat i hope it doesn't hit the gas tank

WTF, how does it work in the other pics? Is the gas tank located behind the back seats in all W215s or just US spec ones?

With any type of AC system you must exhaust the hot air from the condenser. being packed in the seat like that will make it hard to shed the heat and maybe not work well at all. I would also wonder about any condensation / water being made in the process. Not a good place to have water spilling around your seat. To do that correctly your going to need a void in back of the unit with some way for the air to circulate.
I'm not bashing your idea, it just might be wise to keep an eye on the rear of the unit..

I see I see. Its just this is an OEM Benz piece for the CL and S Class. I thought it'd be plug and play or close enough

I'll buy the cool box from you if you still have it.

This is what my car looks like.

Thats the OEM wiring socket for the fridge to the right of the flap, the other plate is a magnet to hold that door open when the fridge is fitted.

It is plug and play, well close anyways.....if you have the ski sack option, which gives you the fuel tank with the hole in it to allow the refrigerator to fit in that spot. At least the fuel tank itself is pretty cheap.....the labor sucks though.
