NEW WHEELS = PHOTO SHOOT!!!!!!!
Also the 600 doesn't come with the perforated seats nor the sporty suspension among other AMG goodies
The 55K engine is still one of the best engines out there and is way under tuned stock, remember this is basically the engine that can be found in the SLR 722S which produces around 650hp and can easily be tuned to well over 700HP
Anyway, regardless of the performance numbers the 600 just doesn't feel quite as 'special' as the 55 IMO and is much less fun to drive
When i bought my 55 i had driven a 600 and a 65 and decided to go with the 55 simply because it was the most fun to drive of the 3

What??? The 65 is ten times the animal as compared to the 55. After having owned the 65, I think the 55 will be too slow for my likings. I'm glad I waited and bought the 65 when I did.

CL65> CL55> CL600> CL500
There's more drama to an AMG. The only visual difference between a CL (S, SL) 600 and 500 is the 'V12' and '600' badges (even with or without the AMG package). I'm mean interior wise, the 600 is the most plush. Leather everywhere and rippled leather on side of the doors. It's the old man and most understated car of the group. Some love that. The 600s are definitely sleepers. But they are not to be ignored. They are blistering fast. They just lack that stance I'd desire in a car like this.
The 55s are just cooler. The brakes are enormous, the rear of a car always looks better with 4 tips, it's lower, all of them come with the AMG package. And just having a legit AMG badge on the back is a sweeter feeling. It feels the sportiest out of all of them.
But that's the beauty of it. There's a CL for every style. Even a CL500 is a great, smooth, quiet GT car that packs a punch.
Given the choice, the CL65 is best. It combines what the 55 and 600 do best. I was lucky enough at 16 that my parents CL500 was the first car I was driving, and thats what made me fall in love with the W215 and have a vision for it since. You never really see them. I see more W216 CLs. But for some reason, as a young guy now, the 55K is just cooler and more raw in my eyes and fits perfectly for what I want.
And for what its worth, I don't see how a cl55 can be a lot funner to drive than a cl65. Unless you just like the sound of the supercharger???

CL55 has smaller and cheaper brakes and easier on the wallet.

Honestly the only 2 things that i really liked on the 65 over the 55 were the stock wheels and suede headliner...
The only real reason i could see to buy the 65 over the 55 was for bragging rights which i could care less about

The speedo argument is silly. Stock to Stock, the 600 will outrun it's 55K counterpart, regardless of what the speedo pegs at, and published HP/TQ numbers say. Throw an ECU/TCU tune on both of them and guess what? The margin of victory grows even larger for the 600.
Now, the AMG cars do come with something called AMG Speedshift, whereas the 600 has softer, lazier shifting. But that is resolved with the TCU tune.
The ABC is tuned slightly more aggressive in the AMG cars as well. But as soon as you lower the 600, I believe they become closer to equal in that department.
The 55K cars are certainly a more visceral drive compared to the 600. More rumble in your butt, a harsher delivery of power, and a stiffer ride. I believe they're more pleasant to the ear, unless you remove the mufflers on the V12TT, as I've done. Sound clip here:
The 55K cars are great, don't get me wrong. But for those that say it's faster/quicker than it's 600 counterpart in both stock or modded (dollar for dollar) are just plain incorrect.
If you MUST have a hand built engine, than either AMG iteration is your choice, and the 600 is a no go. My assembly line engine is doing just fine though....
