Running a cl65 on a road course

Anybody track their cl65 and if so how did it do. There is a charity event coming up at a local road course and I have a chance to take the 65 out. There are some great straight sections and I can open it up pretty well.

I put a set of Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position tires on in the spring so I have a decent set of rubber. The issue that i am concerned with is how much can the brakes take in on a road course. Road America can be brutal on brakes if you push it and I don't want to toast a new set of front rotors...

Brakes will be ok. Just make sure you do cool down lap(s).

It is the under steer on entry in corners and lack of LSD on exits you should pay attention to.

Knowing how expensive brakes are on the CL65...I really wouldn't push it around a track. They should be able to handle the punishment but I think you are accelerating the next pad/rotor change big time.

Thanks ALX.

TMC, brakes are consumables just like tires. I just don't want to kill them in one day. If I wanted a CL for looks I would have purchased a CL500.

they certainly are. but what consumables they are you are looking at $2k for the front alone if done on the cheap. a dealer will charge you $3k plus.

if you wanted a cl for the track.. well.. you have purchased the wrong car

just a thought.

A CL for those long western highways would be perfect, but tracking is a bit iffy.

Im sure it could work though if you dont mind spending the $

Well if you do push it at the track for a few laps, you likely will kill the brakes in one day. My suggestion would be to take it somewhat easy in the turns and let her loose on the straights but give yourself some room to scrub speed off without having to stomp on the brakes.

I paid $2,400+ for front rotors and pads on my CL65 with some significant discounting from the dealer.

Thanks guys, so the answer as I take it is if I drive it like "The Stig" I'm in for an expensive day.

I'm not out to set the world on fire, I just want to have some fun and now have my answer on how hard to push it. I also agree that if I wanted a true track car I should have bought the Z06 I was looking at, instead I chose a comprimise and couldn't be happier.

Hey you may want to ask Stephen04e55. He had both an s600 and s65. Both of which may have been on a track if I remember correctly. He could probably give you better answers on what to expect, considering the heat of the v12s along with the weight, open rear and less than nimble handling. Good luck and be sure to have some video.(both in and out of the car).
