Is this a FAIR offer??

Hey guys I'm in the process of selling my car after two beautiful years of ownership.

A good friend of mine has offered me 20,000 in cash for my 04 CL55 AS IS (including my carbon fiber mods, etc).

It was priced lower because I have intermittent ABC pump failures and cracked windshield washer pump hose.

Also comes with transferrable extended warranty with 1 year left.

Is this a fair price? Should I ask for more?

Car has 78,xxx miles

Condition is Good. Interior is perfect. Exterior has minor scratches and rock chips, but nothing a good detail won't fix.

Only issues is the intermittent ABC failure and broken hose for the windshield washer pump.

That's is a tough choice. It would not hurt to ask for a couple more grands. The ABC is really killing the value of this beautiful automobile. I am in search for a G55 and a similar mileage 2004 still costs more than $40K (although I am looking for 2007 model or later).

Buying new car? which one?

Does your warranty not cover the ABC?

I figured the car would sell for 23k-25k without suspension problems. So I deducted a couple thousand off the sale price for repairs and he knows this. Plus I'm throwing in all my Euroteck CF parts instead of parting out.

Also the 1 year transferable warranty helps.

I'll be looking for a C63 Coupe xD

They will not honor the warranty because I "lowered" my car. I'm still in the process of fighting over this absurd claim.

But everything else was covered.

The car is worth 25k wholesale. 27-30k retail.

Your abc pump is 1500. Labor is 4 hours at 150 (dealer) - 2100.

You should ask 23k for the car at least.

Or go have the codes erased and trade it in for 23-24k and take the tax break if available in your state.

That $2,100.00 might be correct, but what are the real issues with the
ABC problem? The pump is only one problem area...

I think you'd be lucky to get $22,000 for it.

I'd say ask for at least $22k-23k.

Good luck with the sale buddy. Can't wait to see you in your next ride!

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
You might want ...

to consider--these cars are not exactly liquid. You may not see another buyer for months, especially if you're in a "winter" climate. Try to get another tiny bump and move on. Any repairs on theses cars always are expensive, and the "oh yeah you need" is never cheap.
Alx, this is the one time that you and I disagree.. I thnk this car is lucky to bump 20k in the chute, and that's only if she looks good and doesn't have heavy paintwork....

From my experience watching sales, 20k is fair.

More than fair for a CL with ABC issues. Just make sure you disclose the ABC issues. I would go so far as to have them sign a disclosure statement.

AMG GTS
try to get a little more.

I just paid 25k for my 03. To be fair it's mint condition but it has 80k on it.
The warranty I had was only until April next year but it gave me peace of mind and I fell in love with the car and had to have it.

I had test driven one in black 04 with 70k on it and I think I could have got it for 22k but it was bone stock and I liked the mods on mine.

Yours is a nice looking ride so agree that market is tough for these cars, I probably paid too much, but there are people out there who want them and if you can get one to drive it they will want to buy it.

$20k is great money for a cl with abc issues.

For whatever reason, these cars don't have a great demand. Its hard enough to find a buyer as it is, add in your abc issues, and the 78k miles, and $20k sounds pretty good.

The only thing I'd caution is selling a car with issues to a friend. That can cause some beef sometimes.

They have very little resale because they can be maintenance nightmares. It's like dating a supermodel with a crack and heroin addiction. Looks great on the outside but is expensive as hell to maintain.
