red dash warning _ battery malfunction visit workshop. what does it mean?

Today sitting in traffic basically just idling for long periods of time I was getting intermittent quick flashing red saying battery malfunction visit workshop. Is that just the cars way of saying low voltage ? because as soon as you start driving again it goes away and it cannot be recalled it says no malfunctions.
Have you guys ever experienced this? was it your battery just getting old, time for a replacement?

Sounds like your alternator is going due to it being rpm related possibly?

The OE batteries (Absorbed glass mat (AGM) VRLA) last about 7 years

the cl has one battery.

batteries last anywhere from 3 to 7 years.

either your battery is going or your alternator (circuit) is starting to give you problems.

also check your belt for tension and glazing.

there is a small motorcycle battery on the top passenger side under the hood, black cover has to be removed and that will be the battery.

he is not wrong. the amg w215 cl in fact does have a small motorcycle sized battery in the passenger footwell. ive had to put a jump box on it to get power to the vehicle in order to access the trunk to jump the battery in cases where the battery has been completely dead. know first hand as I am a Mercedes dealer tech... just saying.

Good to know about the 2x batteries, but my warning light never came back. I've put 2000 miles on the car in the month I've owned it, and that was the only little niggle that bothered me...For a few hours. Just how I like all my problems, disappearing.
