Cost of ownership of a CL65

Unhappy Cost of ownership of a CL65

I'll preface this by saying that I still love this car. The maintenance, not so much. I've owned a dozen sports cars and this is by far the costliest. Oh well. It is what it is. In the 1.5 years of ownership I've:

1) Replaced motor mounts
2) Replaced tranny mount
3) Replaced flex discs
4) Replaced plugs
5) Replaced coil packs
6) Replaced idler pullies and tensioners
7) Replaced transmission (being rebuilt right now by Southern Hotrod)
8) Replaced torque converter (being rebuilt right now by protorque with a stall)
9) Repaired driver seat pumps
10) Replaced ABC pump
11) Replaced other odds and ends

All in all I've spent about 18k in the past 1.5 years getting this car to be what it needs to be. With that said, all of these things should help it last another 100k miles (hopefully)...lol Would I do it again? No. But, it is a great car. Like my wife said; when it's great it's great...but when it's bad it's mine...

yeah, when the cars are "right", they truly are a dream to drive. When they want to be moody *****es...things get expensive real fast.

Spending the money doesn't bother me so much when I'm getting a tune, upgraded turbos, ICs, etc...but when I'm spending money just to make it do the things it's supposed to do...well, that pisses me off...lol

111k. Nah, I'm going to keep this, tune it out and just pick up another daily driver for work. Probably get a used H3SUT or something of the like.

If you haven't replaced the rubber ABC lines, you may want to be proactive before one blows and takes another ABC pump with it.

5yr/50kmile warr for $4k was def well worth it for me.
$7/gallon 100 octane
$1200 registration/year
$2000/year insurance
Did brakes on it a few months ago for $1500
Plugs and labor last year $1000

edited. Saw you have a 65. Who the F did you get your warranty through? All the quotes I got last year when my car was about 60k miles were around 10k for 3 years...ugh

I got it with about 60kish miles on it and yeah, that's about right. 40k in a year. I drive ALOT! I had the tranny flushed twice and new filters put in. Same with the ABC pump. Had a warranty for a year on certain items. Tranny was not one...lol ABC was, but the pump went out a couple of months after the warranty ended SMH

Over time the rubber lines start failing by having small seepage which can result in catastophic failure in the line which in tern can cause a fire and complete fluid loss. This will starve the pump. And yes, this can and will happen on a CL55.

Its hard to compare your car to others when looking at the 1.5 yr of ownership window and the miles you put on it. If you look at your list most are maintenance items associated with the monster torque the car abuses itself with on a regular basis. Most V8 sports cars I've driven only offer half the hp and torque and still shift harder while chirping 2nd and 3rd. The torque takes its tolls on parts when its absorbed on shifts to the mounts and delivered through the tranny. The power is delivered smoothly and at almost becomes something you take for granted. I've had motor mounts, and coils replaced and a few other things under warranty only 53k on the clock. That will expire in another 1.5 yrs or so. At that point I hope a few more of the big ticket items have been replaced as a result of "age failure" as opposed to "use failure," in your case. I see you like big heavy cars/trucks as do I. They do provide the best ride, but for lots of miles a lighter car is better on itself but it all comes at a cost or sacrifice. I daily drive with a plain stock Acura TL, but I understand that's not for everyone. Hopefully the big things are out of the way for now Good luck with the car.
