PANAMERA 4S quicker than W216 CL600?

Panamera 4S quicker than W216 CL600?
Was in my neighbors W216 CL600 (stock) when up rolled to the stop light, a
Porsche Panamera 4S was stopped as well. Early Sunday morning (no traffic) 2 stop lights about an 1/8 mile a part. The panny was off the line and both times about a car length ahead. We were both quite surprised in the out come. I didn't realize the non turbo car was so QUICK. I'm sure in a 1/4 mile it would have been a different result however stop light to stop light panny was quicker.

agree in most cases
but was surprised in this case.
i'm 99% sure this would be different with a tune
my E55 modded(tune-pulley-headers) and my SL600 (ECU/TCU) will CRUSH my Gallardo in a 1/8 mile run and pretty sure the result would be identical with the 4S PANNY .

Weight is more on the W216 but so is hp(543 VS 493) and torque.
Overall the 216 is just a better overall car and more refined.
i do think the W215 is a CLASSIC design just getting a bit aged especially with the new S coupe arriving at the end of the year.

I see now. They must of juiced up the HP to offset the extra weight. I bet if you were to chip both the 215 and 216, they would both end up at the same hp and torque.

on the highway roll ons i assume the panny s will lose soundly though.
overall in the real world the panny s will win the traffic light to traffic light race. after that it will get reeled in quickly.

drove by our local prsche dealer and drove the 4S, agree- all the power is off the line compared with the torque of the BENZ. I then drove the PANAMERA TURBO and holy **** was that car fast across the entire power band. I really planned to move to CL or S from my E55 but the turbo may just be the ticket

still on the fence not sure i can justify 35k more for the 2010 turbo over the 08 cl600

panamera turbo is also a mod friendly car, so moodded it could get ugly.
the good news in comparing the 2 cars, in used form is you'll still have 70k in your pocket buying 03 cl600 over the panny turbo.

Motor Trend has the turbo running an 11.9 and the Turbo S running an 11.8.

Heres a Turbo with a tune that ran an 11.3

Heres a member on here who ran and 11.1 with a CL600 and tune only.

Looks the the CL600 is simply faster especially when its tuned...

.... not from what i've witnessed first hand--- AT LEAST NOT WITH TUNED SL600
test drove last week the panamera turbo vs my tuned SL600 (WHICH WEIGHS LESS THAN CL) from a dig (lost badly)-from a roll to 75mph (very close)- and 60-100 (side by side 1/2 car length behind). bottom line was, i lost all 3. i was in the SL and salesman was in the panny.
he asked beforehand if i wanted to test the 2 against each other. a 2 mile empty service road behind the dealership is where we tested them.
don't always put the the dragtime numbers as FACT,many variables go into the times (tires-conditions)
with the above being said i've decided to keep the 35k in my pocket and buy the 08 CL600 instead of the Panamera turbo. i think performance wise if modding the CL it's pretty much a wash between the two and while i find the panamera looks growing on me
i find the w215 and w216 cars being some of the best looking on the road.

As we've told you from a dig there's no doubt the panameras have the launch advantage but that's it.
I'm pretty sure motor trend is a reliable source. Dragtimes numbers with the timeslips posted are as reliable as any other source for times. In any race there will always be different variables.
It sounds like the Porsche station wagon is the car for you. I'd go pick one up ASAP If I was you and post the videos of it pulling on your SL.
