Are you sure it's the same system? Before buying this car I read everywhere that the ABC that comes with the new CL is much more reliable than the old one.

Well, i guess i won't be getting one then lol
All they see is $$$$ in their eyes when their flagship model rolls in for repairs! Best advice i got when i first picked up my CL is make sure you have a very good indy mechanic and thankfully i do.
Yeah $1072 seems too much, that's why I'm asking how many hours they actually need to do the work and I'll try to negotiate... I'm spending too much money at this dealer and have a good relationship with them... Hopefully my SA gives me a nice discount at the end when I take care of him lol.

The ABC system in the 216 & 221 is a generation on from the 215 & 220. Its hardly surprising. The differences aren't great, and I couldn't say what the benefits are. Reading all the respective road tests, Mercedes seem to have moved things on, achieving a better ride/handling compromise. Many of the changes are probably down to software. I'm always hearing how the later cars are more reliable.
To be more specific, the later cars have different pumps and valve blocks. The 215/216 pumps have integrated vibration dampers, which the earlier cars didn't. They look quite different. The newer ones have paired valve assemblies, rather than individual ones. The newer valve blocks might actually be interchangeable, I don't know.
I can't say what all the differences are, but they're definitely not exactly the same systems. The design of the pipes changes as Mercedes learned the hard way how not to do it. I think some of these were running changes, during the W220 lifetime (and after it). Manufacturers never stand still with these sorts of things.

New quote after talking to my SA:
"
Good morning, attached is a revised estimate for replacement of ABC filter and additional fluid to perform a flush. The only additional labor is the filter and added fluid. Do you want me to go ahead and do the additional stuff?
We haven’t received the parts yet…should be expecting by 11am
Let me know."

labor costs seem very high to me.

they quote the book.
the mb book generally does not know anything about less than 1 hour work units
$143/ h is typical rate for mb dealer service dept. some are higher.

Ok guilty.
It's funny when I see your name as I am a crim lawyer. Just don't talk too soon to the man......
Look, you should feel fortunate that members are here trying to help AND maybe you should think twice about guilty posts......
I think the moderator nailed it and you got lucky with hoses and fluids. Trust me you don't want to see the pump bill.
I would suggest you look into a warranty for this issue alone as it may fail after this "fix". Spend 3 grand now for a couple years and it will probably pay double.

Really? Is this how you treat us after trying to help you?
If you think the dealer's charges are too high, go to an independent Mercedes-Benz repair shop and get a quote from them. Proactively planning to have the dealer do the work and then 'negotiating' their charges away after they do the work is at least bad form and at worst a big withdrawal from your karma bank. And how do you plan to do it - will you be one of those angry, yelling, over-acting upset customers we have all seen at the front of the line somewhere? Have some class. Take your medicine or go to an indie shop. And show some appreciation to your fellow M-B enthusiasts when you come in here.
