ABC Malfunction - Car doesn't drive

Nightmare that came true

So I started my car this morning and couldn't move the steering wheel... few seconds later a message pops up saying ABC malfunction. I hit the button to raise the car up, then lowered it and the car is now completely dropped in the front + a big leak of oil on the left side of the car.

Had her towed to the dealer (it was a MISSION, car was on the 8th floor and parking with super low clearance)

I received this quote from my SA, does it sound like a rape quote to you guys?

Thankss

My quote was around $16-$1700....After contacting MBUSA to have the repair covered under the CPO warranty, the SA wanted to charge me $490 to replace the drive belt and steam clean the engine as it was contaminated with ABC fluid.

I believe STAMPER, who had to replace a valve block, and ROMEO, who had to replace the ABC pump, feel that you are lucky to only have to replace the ABC hoses. The valve block and the ABC pump, which are common problems with the ABC system, are much more expensive..

To the OP, I don't think that price is bad at all. They had to do a flush/refill/rodeo in addition to replacing the line. How many miles on your sled when that happened?

Some hoses are cheap and others are expensive. That price isn't bad. Hopefully you didn't run the abc pump dry.

The flush is normally not included under warranty.

Xabo, my car is out of warranty, I'm paying for the repair. The estimate they gave me doesn't include the flush. Don't they need to do it since they're replacing some parts?

I understand that. I was merely pointing out the fact that even under warranty, the flush is not included/covered. It is recommended that they flush the system as if there are small metal/dirt particles in the system, it could cause a pump failure in the future.

Pay for the flush its worth every penny if it saves your pump or blocks.. the blocks are the most susceptable to dirt etc..

How much should I pay for the flush? I'll ask to have it done.

Hope you didn't run the pump dry. How long was your car running before you turned it off after you noticed the power steering was out and the ABC message came on ?

2 min when I first noticed. Then when the tow truck came he had to turn the car and try to move it. Total was about 10min.

Ouch once those things ingest air its usually DOA.

Expect to pay a good ammount for a flush.. its 40 dollars per liter, make sure they use the recomended MB oil found in your service bullitein.. Labor will be a bit as well budget a good 600 for it etc.

Get ready for some possible bad news regarding the pump. Once air gets into the pump it pretty much is done.

Have the dealer run a good test on the pump to make sure it is supplying needed pressure as well as looking for leaks from the seals, etc.

You will definitely want a flush as I bet the valve blocks will have residue/shavings from running dry.

The part price sounds about right from a dealer. Fluid plus filters.

The labor is high. 508.29 equates to 4 hours of labor!

How many hours they actually need to do the flush?

Thanks!

No wonder you're getting ripped off OP. You're going to a dealership. You should have sent it to a Indie shop instead.

$1072 for a flush seems pretty steep man. I'm basing this off what it would cost for a w215.

I was under the impression that the w216's had a much more reliable ABC system that was supposed to be cheaper to fix...
