Time has come to get another CL. I am torn between the v12 and the new v8tt. What would you do and why? Thanks!!

I've never driven the CL63 but I'm partial to the tt V12 for its massive torque.

Find out what would be needed for a 7spd tranny swap in the CL65 and have the best of both worlds. The new SL65 already has it. The V8TT are making big power with turbo upgrades, the same can be done on the 65 if you feel the need. Either choice is a win. Good luck in making up your mind.

I would go with the CL63 V8 TT. Even the SL65 with the 7 speed tranny is dead even with an SL63 with PP throught the 1/4 mile. And the SL63 PP only lags behind 0-150mph by .2s.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mg-test-review

But the fact remains that the CL65 does not use the 7 speed tranny. The additional weight makes it slower than the CL63 V8 TT.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ed-test-review

The CL63 has advantages in price, more performance mods available, better sounding exhaust, higher rev'ing engine (more sensory stimulation), and lighter weight resulting in better handling.

The CL65 has greater exclusivity and status (although 99.99% of the people will have no clue the difference in the cars), V12 badges and exhaust tips (not my preference). The CL65 is a torque monster but unless you are rolling around on drag radials, you will not see the benefit of that low-end grunt.

It all comes down to if you value the exclusivity and status of the V12 and 65 badge and torque over the more avaiable and useable performance of the CL63.

Has Mercedes "beefed" up the 7spd tranny? I remember this being considered the weak link with the 63 motors.

The twin turbo v8 is more racy, shifts more and feels lighter and more aggressive.

The v12tt is turbine like smooth and feels like the hand of God when pushed from any speed you have traction at.

Pick your poison.

The CL63 outperforms the CL65 according to Car & Driver and i personally prefer V8s over V12s, they have a better feel imo and the transmission that comes with the CL63 is a more modern one than the trans in the CL65 due to it's massive torque requirements

Unless you're just looking for the bragging rights of owning a 65 the 63 should be an all around better experience to own, i'm actually deciding between buying a new CL63 or a used SLS next year

Also keep in mind that the new S Class Coupe is going to be announced fairly soon which will replace the CL so you might want to hold off until then

They seem to be running the same times stock vs stock. Would love to see a side by side run with both being tuned. My 05 cl65 was 4600lbs, what's the new 65 weigh-5200lbs? Would be nice if they got it to 4500lbs. Used 2011 cl63's are about $85k now.

If you have the time and you can find both available, take them each for a ride. Then come back 2 weeks later, and take them both out once again. After see if your original impressions changed..Hopefully it doesn't confuse you and only help solidify how you feel about either one or the other.

I guess both are great. I love the styling of the facelifted (2011+) models however there are some steals on 2009-2010 65's. im toying with the idea of either a 2010 65 with a widebody kit OR keeping it simple and getting a facelifted 2011-2012 63 or 65. im gonna drive both a couple times and see which intrigues me most. I am leaning toward the 65 and the widebody kit idea really interests me

for me the lack of true leather on the dash/door panels, etc is a bummer on the 63. I would take a 65.

The car already handles like a boat, you wanna add a wide body? The CL63 handles better than the CL65. Get a CL63, tune it and call it a day... not sure why would you waste almost 50k for the V12 with the outdated tranny...

As you can see in my Project I Went for the 65. Dont want any limitations on a car like this. I want all options.
