Leak on the CL600 (ABC related)

Hi guys,

Found a small leak come off of the y split (close to the differential) of my exhaust. Further investigating it's some sort of black rubber ball (ABC related I'm sure), please see pictures.

Previous the dealer replaced all front/rear ABC spheres and refilled ABC fluid and rodeo test which it passed.

Any help appreciated with what you see is the issue with the leak.

Thats the rear ABC accumulator as you say. I would give it a clean up and see where its leaking, if its the line istelf, or if its leaking from the connection into the sphere.

The spheres themselves are one piece things so they cant leak themsleves unless severely damaged (which yours doesnt look).

It may be just that the dealer didnt torque up the connection correctly (hopefully!).

Do check your ABC fluid level now, as if its low the pump can suck in air and be damaged. Only use Pentosin CHF11S fluid to top up and ensure the tank and surrounding area is very clean.

i too believe it's the accumulator. if the dealer replaced it they should fix it free if you don't want to wrench it yourself.

I'm confused guys, my dealership paperwork shows when I went into the dealer they replaced the front/rear ABC spheres... is that another name for accumulators? Is that what the black ball looking thing is in my picture?

Yes, that is one of the accumulators (nitrogen spheres). They are not rubber but steel.

Clean it up and check the line is tightened correctly. Its either leaking at the line to accumulator joint or the line may have a leak that is running down the length of line on the accumulator.

If it is a leak in the actual line, check all associated ABC lines as you may need to replace more than just that one. They often will start to weep before they leak and blow.

As noted above make sure the ABC reservoir DOES NOT run low or dry since you are losing fluid from the leak.

Start here ^^^^^^^

The front and rear accumulators are also called spheres

They are the same and share the same part number

2203270115

The return accumulator part number is

2203270415

How much is it leaking

The car is under extended warranty and the front/rear accumulators were replaced about 3-4 weeks ago.

Problem is the same dealer won't be able to take a look until 5 days from now.

Take a look at my new pic in this post for leak (2 quarters is first day, 1 quarter was since last night), seems minor. Can I continue driving it until then?

My ABC resoveir is at the correct level and is indeed green and noticed the resoveir had leaked, not sure if it's normal.

Any leak no matter how small is not normal

And small leaks will usually become big leaks

over time and then you have a problem

How close is the dealership

Under warranty - Take (tow?) it in to the dealer

and leave it - and use their loaner car

Then the next step would be to check the fittings

as described in the above posts

Please keep this thread updated

Thank-You

If the CL ABC system is designed the same as the S500 (I'm almost certain it is ) then there are actually four spheres. In addition to what COOPERDB stated the other part number is 220 320 04 15. It is often referred to as the pulsation damper. Looks like the one in the attached picture.

I would check and see if they replaced that one also.

Don't drive the car as you have reported the problem and if you continue to drive the car and the hose comes off and the struts need to be replaced then you could be facing a $5k bill.
