19" Rims

I know some of you have 19" rims on your CL. How is the ride ?
Positives / Negatives ?
about the ride, i had 19s and now 20s hre (on a gs400 though). seriously it mostly depends on your suspension. the suspension of the cl is relatively soft so that shouldn't be a problem. you will hear some louder sound when you hit uneven road "boom boom boom" but it shouldn't affect the ride too much imho. that's the case for my gs4

My car is silver so I think a brushed aluminum finish with polished lips would look good.
The roads where I live are not too bad. I'm very careful on the stock 18's to avoid any potholes, etc.
I would probably go with 8.5's in the front and 9.5's in the rear. This would keep the front wheels width the same size as stock and give 1/2 inch more width in the rear, which I feel is really needed with the power the 55 puts down.
It's a tough choice. I like both the 547R and 847R. The 847R is a clean look with the hidden hardware, however, the hardware exposed on the 547R is nice too.

hre wheels are strong. i live in norcal but my wife is in socal so i drive a lot, and with my hre 20s i have hit more than a few potholes. still not bend no nothing. not saying they are invincible but they are good stuff imho

i am still new to the cl, but can you fit 10 in the rear? i have 8.5 front and 10 rear on my gs400 so i thought the cl should be able to take 10 too

I recently went through the same dilemna. I was debating between 18" and 19".
I chose the 547R in 18" size for my c32. I would have definitely gone for 19" if I didn't live in downtown boston where the roads look like the surface of the moon. Especially on the CL which has a pretty soft ride to begin with. I would go 19". I did 8.5 on front and 9.5 in rear.
The 547 is nicer and sportier than the 847 IMHO. The 847 would look very nice on the bigger 4 doors. The brushed aluminum with with polished lip is the only way to go
. Also get the etched aluminum cap.Prasith

I've been thinking of getting a set of 19" HRE 547R or 847R rims.

I agree with not getting the lips clear coated. I don't think the polished lip is clear coated normally.
Do you guys have any pictures of your cars with the HRE's ?
Thanks for the info ! I still haven't made up my mind between the 547 or 847... I like them both...
I faced the same decision. I liked the exposed bolts on the 540R, but they were a little too common. I'm not sure if I made the right decision, but I went with the 840Rs for my black CLK500. They arrive in two weeks. I think you get a wider lip with the 800 series. HRE told me I can have a 3.5" lip with the 840R but 3" with the 540R. I think the 800 series look a little more elegant and less agressive. Your CL is a pretty exclusive car. I say go with the exclusive 800 series. If you ever plan on getting big brakes (like the Brembo grand turismo) make sure you tell HRE that you want the offset to fit big brakes in the front and rear. Don't get clearcoat on the lip. You'll regret it when you have curb rash and the clear coat starts to peel.
another thing is the visual lighting illusion. with the 540r series, coz' with the bolts and stuff, it helps to reflect the lips better imho. 840r is very clean, but sometimes it's like it's too plain. but i agree, 840r is pure elegant
More good info ! I don't think I will ever upgrade the brakes. The 8 Piston Brembo (AMG) units in the front / 4 Piston Brembo (AMG) units in the rear are big enough.

I have a little life left in my stock tires, so before they get too worn I need to make a decesion.
I guess I will be looking at a lot of pictures in order to help me decide.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this ?
Anyone have any pictures of 847R's with this finish ? I have found some picks of 847R's but they all seem to be polished or chromed.
So far I think the HRE 847R series wheels in a brushed aluminum finsh with polished lips would look the best.

Those are pretty clean wheels ya got there.
What do you use to polish those wheels? I was told to use a hard wax with a high boiling point. Do you think using regular Zaino Z6 or Z2 would damage the wheels?

if you have the polished lips without clear coat, don't use wax, it's not going to do anything. get something called the blue magic (available at pep boys, etc...) and following the instructions to polish the lips. very easy, and excellent results. i do that on my 540R all the time. and it's a proven way recommended by HRE too. i know coz' i know people there
I went with 20" HRE 549's on my CL55. Cant remember, but I got either a 11" or 11.5" rear on mine with NO rubbing at all, but my rear fenders are rolled. Even my dubs look kind of small on the CL. Mine are Black centers with a polished lip. On my SL55, I have 20" HRE 547's with Brushed Centers and Polished lips. Absolutely Beautiful! Those are 10.5 or 11's on the rears. I know Black centers are not for everyone, but I love them on black cars and with the BIG silver AMG calipers, it looks crazy while I am driving because it looks like there is no centers and all you see are the brakes.
We demand pics...the CL55 and the SL55...that should be good...20" HRE on these cars...baller!!

Hey Tedster....is your M3 at Auto Explosion? I saw one identical to that one the other day there. The owner is a very good friend of mine and has worked on all of my cars, including my eclipse spyder showcar.
