Rear Noise Help Please - CLOSED
All,
Having an issue I can't seem to solve.
2003 cl55 70k. 20" wheels.
Over the last 2-3 weeks I have had a noise develop in my cabin coming from my rear. The noise is NOT noticeable to people standing outside the car as it rolls by slowly, coasting or under accelatation or braking.
There is no shimmy, wheel hop, or shake. The car drives smooth and accelerates smooth. The noise is a constant drone-like thumping sound consistent with tire revolution when driving. The noise persists from start to stop going forward and increases in frequency as speed increases. The noise is present when driving, slowing, accelerating and in neutral (coasting). And it is not present when driving in reverse.
The dealer blamed my wheels and minor imperfection in tire wear. I have since then
I have had my rims double checked and even placed brand new tires (different brand intentionally) on my rear wheel but the problem still persists.
I do NOT believe it is a wheel bearing issue as I had the tire place check the hubs and driving and swerving from left to right does not increase the sound.
Please assist. The car only has 68 k miles on it. Never tracked and I only put 5k miles on it a year.
Any ideas?
Double A

Better be. Or it will be an expensive screw up. I will ask them to reconfirm before any work.
I am waiting on the bearings. They were On sale at autohauzAz.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Maybe do a fluid change on the diff as maintenance, if there aren't a bunch of shavings then the guys who have actually seen the car got it right and you'll have fresh oil and new bearings. Just a thought.

Bearings on a car that was never tracked and only at 70k? Has anyone had to replace bearings on their w215?

Issue was resolved by my local shop.
It was a driver side rear wheel bearing. The scary thing is the car actually drives much better than it has in the last 3 years I have owned it. It's purring now....
