2005 CL65 whats it worth?
Hey guys, i'm interested in an 05' CL65 with under 25k miles thats for sale. What should i offer? It has been up for sale for awhile. It does have super low miles and i do plan on doing a PPI before i buy it.

There are so few of these it's hard to pin a typical market value on one. On the one hand they are still depreciating rapidly, so the price is falling by the day. On the other hand they are gaining miles , so low mileage examples are becoming harder to find and will be more sought after. I just paid $25K for one with 29K miles -- instantly driving the market down further.
There was just one on ebay with 35K miles listed for $37K. It didn't sell. I think that should give you a range...

With this age of car I don't think there is a significant difference between say 25k miles and 75k miles. They are never going to be rare enough so that a pristine low mileage example fetches big bucks.
The major mechanical can go much further than 75k. There are however rubber and plastic parts that age with time and not mileage. So i don't think I would pay a huge premium for a low mileage example. I would rather focus on getting one that has been well maintained.
Also they are essentially worthless so you cannot count on any resale value. So buy the nicest one that you can regardless of mileage and drive it til it drops.
Overall it is an awesome car and you will have a great time.

You're right for the money this car is worth keeping and driving it til it dies. I feel if i drive it i will have to have it lol. I have never driven a 65.

It's worth whatever someone would pay but, for me, I wouldn't go over $20k. Odds are, even with low mileage, it's going to be very expensive to maintain and repair.

If you check on the internet Mercedes of Denver has an 05 CL65 with 40K miles for $25K. You know that is a dealer so it is a little high. But if it was a good car that might be a good deal. I would want to see a print out of the service history.
If they are well maintained then they are good cars and actually dont cost that much to keep going. I have had my CL55 for 10 years and never had any major problems. I have had to replace normal wear items like engine mounts and ball joints but you would expect that with a car with almost 100K miles. I would say i spend probably $2000 to 4000 per year on maintenance (including brakes and tires---which are the big cost items). Of course my car has been religiously maintained by the same mechanic since the day i bought it and i think that makes all the difference.

I think that is probably right, though i would not walk away from a really nice one for a few thousand dollars more. As BlownV8 says they can cost you a lot to repair and maintain. So a few extra thousand for a well maintained one would be well worth it.

One advantage to a low miles car is that the interior will tend to have less wear and tear. We all enjoy a pristine, new looking interior, and that is a big part of the appeal of these cars.
I would also avoid any northern states car that has seen salted roads, regardless of mileage. I was fortunate to find a southern car with an impeccable underside. On the other hand, a southern car can get a lot of sun exposure that deteriorates the exterior. You hope that the car was always garaged, not left out to bake in the sun.
Be sure your inspection includes a good look at the underside , and if there is anything rusty run away.

Condition is more important than miles. I recently bought an '05 with 48K miles for $28K. I probably overpaid, but the car was local and I knew the owner and the car's history.
An '06 with 30,000 or so miles recently sold on Bring a Trailer for $36,000 if I recall correctly.

The 06's are even harder to come by since there were a lot less made that year, you don't really see them come up for sale that often, at least i haven't. This one is a one owner and in Flint grey, which there could very well be only a hand full in that color. It also has a long list of service records. I can see a non black or silver 65 in this condition sell for mid 30's.

The flint grey car has the same interior and exterior colors as my car. I like both a lot. The grey is the best color for not showing the dirt. The interior is nice and cool in the heat.

PB617, Just FYI.............There's an 05 CL65 (about 24 or 25k miles) for sale near in the Mass area that has been for sale for some time. It even made a short stint on eBay starting at $20K (no reserve), however the dealer pulled it before the auction ended. I made an offer to the dealer about 6 months ago when it was listed on either cars.com or autotrader.com but they didn't accept my offer. At that time they were asking $35K and I offered $28K...I think the price has since dropped to the $29k neighborhood. It's black with black interior .......
