cl vs sl

i have a sl55 which i love and am planning to replace it with a cl65. do you cl55 owners think i would be satisfied with the change? the extra room would be welcome and i'm guessing the performance of the sl65 and cl65 would be very close. any comments? does anyone know when the 65's will show up in the states?

Really, the major difference will be the addition of a hard top that can't be lowered.

The 65's will start hitting the shores in June/July.

I had a '03 sl and I can't say how much the cl55 is thatn the sl. 1) QUALITY!!! 2) The door of the CL has two hinges to widen the opening and shorten the door. 3) The SL had vinyl, yes the chrysler type for sun visors. 4) The CL has the two vanity mirrors for each side (close up and standard) 5) The SL felt too plastic. 6) The sl door closed with a cheap clik than a thud. 7) The BOSE stereo in the SL was cheap vs the CL... they must use a different amp. 8) The driving of the SL felt very mechanical. 9) SL had too many cheap pieces. 10) For those who have owned Mercedes in the past, will know what I mean with the new breed such as the new E, CLK, etc. I may not be able to purchase a new MB ever again based on quality. The CL IS THE BEST BUILT CAR OVERALL of the 47 cars I've owned (My S class is as good). I would consider all CL, but perhaps not the next generation.

Well, I currently have both cars, the 03 SL55 and the 03 CL55. The SL is definately more fun and gets more attention, especially after adding the Kleeman Boost kit and taking off the mufflers. I really like driving the SL, but I LOVE my CL. The SL55 does not have Vinyl visors like the SL500, but it is definately not in the same league as the CL. Both of my cars are tricked out, but I love the Muscular elegance that the CL55 offers. If you want a real fun car, stick with the SL, otherwise if you want a great combination of fun and luxury, the CL is the ONLY way to go!

I just saw the CL65 here in NYC today. I will only say that it is owned by a major music mogul who just took delivery this past weekend.

Interesting look and MUCH different sound. The engine gargles both looder and smoother than that of the CL55.

Beautiful Car.

I had the SL and didnt love it at all compared to the CL. My choice for a convertible is going to be the new Aston Martin Convert.

Perhaps you should drive at least the CL55 for some idea of the differences between it and your SL55. My only epxerience with an SL is my wife's 03 SL500 Sport, which may have only a few things in common with the SL55. I prefer the CL by far. That said, my overriding impression of the SL was its brakes, which felt quite different from traditional systems, such as that in the CL55 or CL65. I much prefer the feel and stopping power of the CL55 brakes. The SL55 and CL55, for that matter, may be a bit more "flingable" than the heavier 65 series of each.
While not qualified to make a direct comparison between the SL and CL55, I can say that the CL55 is one amazing car that I appreciate more every time I drive mine. Judgments on all of these models are obviously highly subjective, because each will outperform anything near its class.

You have quite a garage there for a 32-year old.
Oh, and Thanks for answering my prev. post. I love your Turbo!!!!!

I, personally would choose the CL over the SL. The SL is a fun car, but the CL is just Luxury. I remember that when I was 10, I sat in a CL and I was drooling!!!! That was just a 500 model!!! At that time, they were limited in production, so we decided to just get an E430.

Time catches up with everyone. Thats why you have to have a 55, so you can try to outrun it!

CL vs SL

I was pondering trading my CL for an SL. I really love the style of the SL and from pics, the interior looked pretty cool. So, today, I went to my dealer and after looking a new SL over and playing with the roof (wow, what a marvel to watch, and also I was thinking what a mess to fix after warranty is up) I took it out for a 30 minute test drive. Compared to my CL, the SL is really what a sports car is about, low, maneuverable, etc. But, the road noise was definitely more than my CL, at 80mph, the wind noise was fairly loud. I HAD thought I would enjoy a smaller car, but after driving that car for 30 minutes, I realized I actually DO prefer the CL. Maybe if I were a true convertible guy, I would feel different and the car would strike me a little differently. I also feel that the interior of the SL seems a bit cheaper than the CL. It isn't really substandard, just in comparison it seems so, maybe because there is so much going on with the lines.

Also, driving over anything but smooth pavement, I kept hearing a metallic sound coming from behind me, maybe the roof assembly? When stopped, I could hear little noises coming from behind me, maybe the gas pump? At a crawl, the brakes made strange noises (though I had no problem with them when driving normal).

My friend who came along for the ride asked if the SL was a stepdown from the CL. I told him, I had always imagined the SL as a step up, but truly after driving I realized (for me) the CL is the better of the two.

Now, I have to decide if I am going to hold on to my CL or trade in for a 2004.

Does anyone have any comments about trading up from a 2000 CL to a 2004 or should I wait for the 2005?
