Help 2005 CL65 A/C compressor locked up

Hi all,
so my ac compressor locked up and belt busted into a million pieces. Anyone have any instructions or experience replacing ac compressor, dryer, belt diagram? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Did some searches but could only find stuff on 55 engines and not V12TT thanks.

use a shorter belt to bypass in the meantime.

Not sure why you need VIN but here it is. I had a friend who has Alldata repair program but couldn’t find anything either for how to other than 7 hours worth of labor. Thanks

I'm not sure a shorter belt is a good idea.

My own car (CL55) started rattling the other day, sounded just like one of those old diesel engines that went "clackety clack". Sounded like a pulley, but I couldn't determine which one.

Started driving down towards the dealer when the noise disappeared, reappeared, then said BOOM and was silent. Then the belt started whining (a sign of too little tension). I pulled over immediately, killed the engine and popped the hood.

What do I see but the AC pulley lying at the bottom of the engine bay, with ball bearings and little parts around it. Sound like your situation?

When I first heard the noise, I noted no issue with oil pressure, battery charging, or power steering. I suspected it may be the AC, which I rarely use, so turned it on, and it worked fine. Blew cold air, no additional noise from the engine.

The shop says the compressor has seized, but would it actually run and blow cold air if it had seized? Just curious. Apparently it's a labor intensive job as most of the stuff in front of the engine has to come out to get to the compressor. Stipulated at 10 hours. Ouch. I don't have anywhere to DIY and my tools are in storage, so will have to take the hit this time.

With my old car I had a shop manual, so I could actually check and repair things within my competency. Is there a manual available for these cars?

Thanks!

Yeah looks like we are in the same boat. Here’s link for another discussion on another person who did compressor swap on their S55. https://mbworld.org/forums/s55-amg-s...moval-s55.html

Its a tight fit but not that bad if you have tools. If you are doing it on the ground it would be a PIA. Pull fan, lower subframe and you have plenty of space. It can be done in an hour with a lift and proper tools

Are you referring to the 55 or 65? Or both?

65 is tighter, 55 don't have to pull fan

An hour? The shop charged me for 10. I called the MB Service center, who also quoted 10 hours for the job. They have a lift and proper tools.

This was for a 55.

Yeah, the "hours"you pay doesn't mean it takes that long.
-Recover freon
-screw jack under engine
-take out four subframe bolts and one bolt on steering column
-Loosen lower mount on LF strut to lower subframe a bit more.
-take 3 bolts off the compressor
-Loosen lines
- Reinstall
-Evac & recharge A/C

Stuck on Last compressor bolt

so I’m making slow progress but progress. Need help on getting the lowest ac compressor bolt. It’s a super tight fit. I can get socket on but no room to place rachet as it to close to subframe. Any tips or I thought someone somewhere said you can put a jack under the motor to raise it? If so how?

Location of expansion valve

Forget my last post, habor freight saved the day haha. They had a tool (socket caps) that connected to the socket that gave me just enough space and ability to put a wrench and get that last bolt out. So I finally got the compressor out! Question is I’m replace compressor, receiver/dryer, and expansion valve. Anyone have idea where expansion valve is located? I’ve done them before on other care and it’s somewhere near firewall. Can anyone chime in. Thanks gentlemen.

On the firewall under the wiper motor. Pul the wiper cowl, pull the wiper assembly.

So, I notice this car is now for sale on ebay.

Is the OP the seller? Looks like a dealer. Did OP get tired of the car and sell it to a dealer? Was the AC fixed properly?

Listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CL-Class-65-AMG-RENNTECH/292752647872?hash=item44296ae6c0:g:6DwAAOSwFvBbsjG m&vxp=mtr

And relisted: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-CL-Cla...d=292752647872

Guessing the OP is no longer active here.
