MSRP for the CL65!
I got this info. a few days ago, but was unable to post until now! MBUSA has released the base pricing for the CL and SL65 models!
CL65 - $177,000
SL65 - $179,500
This does not include GG tax, Destination or any options that you might choose!

2003 CL55 AMG
Not worth it if you ask me. Sure the engine is going to scream but you are not getting much more than the CL55 offers for the huge mark up.
Exclusivity ? Maybe, but with the flood of AMG units into the US it is getting to be a joke.
AMG is no longer a niche vehicle.
At $170k plus there are a lot of other avenues to explore with other manufactures.

I don't think the CL65 or SL65 makes sense for most people, but for the cost oblivious guy who loves the CL or SL and just wants to get the most badass versions, why not? Cost aside, how great is it that MB is willing to build these cars? As for the Gallardo costing $5K more... I would definitely get a Gallardo before a SL65 or CL65, but not everyone wants a sports car.

2006 CLS 55 AMG
all i am saying is go and sit in the gallardo and either benz I have driven the sl-55 and cl55 and the gallardo the footwell in the lambo is goofy no room for the left foot the lambo is a car you get in and do short trips the benz is something you drive cross country now I am not slamming the lambo it was fun but one word describes the benz substantial and they way to go is the 55 with a powerchip for 3k and have 590 hp 696 lbft and be 60k less

And from the AMG Factory to me is ~700km and to US is 10 times more . And we're still talking about the same car!
$170k is needed for well equiped CL500 but it's not enough to buy base version of CL600 or CL55AMG.
You live in beautiful country, where people earn much $$$ and AMGs are cheap

You have to be very rich ******* to drive a CL65 AMG in Europe.

Just to clarify the options on the CL65, everything that is standard on the 600 is on the 65 and the only two options are Keyless Go and Distronic.

The folks at MB are real penny pinchers if you ask me, why would you make Keyless Go and Distronic an option...weird if you ask me...
IA, definitely not worth the money, I would definitely rather just get a CL55 and put some upgrades on it!!!

The advantages of a CL65 over a CL55 on US roads are minor and worth the price if money is truly no object. With the market the way it is, I would be looking at a used Maranello 550 or 575, if I, 1) wanted to trade my 03 CL55 and 2) were ready to put a lot more money in a second car. I have not driven the Bentley GT, so would want to do so before any change. The Gallardo is attractive, but I would prefer a 996 TT/X50 if I wanted a sports car. The Audi LeMans will be here soon enough and it is an intriguing car too. The RS8 is my choice for a second car and I am on the list.

Adam is right that AMG no longer makes niche vehicles, but there is very little on the road that delivers the style, comfort, safety and performance of a CL55. I marvel at its capabilities.

I agree the cars capabilities are awesome and ultra comfy there is really only one choice if you want a true daily driver the other cars are awesome also but they are for die hards and thats good thats why they make them but you dont see ferraris, gallardos driven on a daily basis sure there are some guys or gals but is not the norm the sl and the cl 500,55,or 65 are and can be a daily driver with great performance

I agree with Adam, although (even here in the 55 group) I'd have to go with a Renntech CL600...
Mind you, $140K for the CL600 plus $6500 for the Renntech Stage III puts you at $146,500, so you're only about $24K off the CL65 price.
So pick up a barely driven '03 instead, add the Stage III, and save yourself about 50%...

I haven't seen the issue yet, but the August issue of Car & Driver has a comparison test of the Bentley GT, Aston DB9, Mercedes CL65 and the Ferrari Scaglietti. The Ferrari wins but they had a hard time justifying the price premium over the second place Mercedes. The Bentley brought up the rear.

before swooning over the lambo, be sure to read the lastest issue of evo; this is not a fast car! someone earlier made an excellent point: as a road car or daily driver, the lambo and myriad other sport cars don't approach many of the amg products.
