Sharing Pricing on ABC Pump Replacement
Well my ABC Pump appears to have gone.
I've taken it to the local dealer, and while I do have a fair bit of trust in these guys, I thought I'd share the quote with you all.
Keep in mind I have no skill nor desire to do ANY DIY work - I totally respect anyone that can work on these cars but I know I'd cause more damage than good!
So please share your thoughts on what I've been given.
Overview of Work (rounding numbers)
1- $6,000 - Replace ABC pump + 2 Lines and perform Rodeo
2- $500 - Replace Switchover Valve for Secondary Injection (my yellow engine light came on a a day before the ABC warning light)
3- $500 - Supples and Taxes
Total Estimate (so far) = Just under $6900
Breakdown
PARTS - $3900
$2400 - ABC Pump (with Accumulator)
Replacing 2 lines: (as described to me)
$600 - line from pump to valve by transmission
$500 - line from pump to a dead end by the radiator
$350 - Hydraulic Oil
$74 - Switch over valve
LABOR - $2,200
The new pump comes with a new Accumulator (once the pump is installed they can get pressure and check the other Accumulators)Love to get some feedback.
Thank you!

That is why the values of these cars are so low. It all depends on whether your car is a low mileage AMG example or if it is an average or below average daily driver. It made sense to me to do the coilover conversion on my car. It has higher miles and not the nicest example. I bought the car with bad suspension because it was a supercharged AMG. If I had to do it again I would still convert but i would choose CEIKA Coilovers vs. Yellowspeed. These have more adjustability and have better valving. I would bet they will ride better than the ABC system.

Here is what you are looking at for a set of 4. they have compression and rebound adjustability over the Yellowspeeds and remote reservoirs for better quality ride. They are also available with a comfort spring. I would like to see if anyone has tried these.

Thanks for the response.
I actually really love the ABC system so I am not interested in changing over. Plus I like to keep the car as original as possible to help maintain as much resale value as I can.
I was really just sharing pricing to help get more visibility on ABC repair costs and to hopefully get an idea if the estimates I’m getting are reasonable.
I think ill also also check out an independent MB repair shop.
In in the meantime - I’d still love to hear if the estimates I’m getting are reasonable.

No problem please keep in mind that the newest CL is still 15 years old. Which model do you have and how many miles? $7,000 is a lot to invest in a CL considering non AMG cars are usually less that $10,000. This will be an ongoing issue with this same repair cost within the next few years, It will only get worse. As far as resale value I don't think the conversion hurts resale value. I would even say a conversion is an investment if done correctly with the CEIKA shocks I posted and a strutmasters warning light delete module. You would still have about 2,500 in parts and about 400-800 in labor for the conversion. The resale value of these cars is at rock bottom right now, about 1/10th of new pricing. I would say it is mostly because of the ABC being problematic. Even a CL65 in pristine condition is only worth about 25,000 nowadays,vs the 175,000 price when new ( about as much as a well optioned Honda accord). If you look at the difference in pricing for an E55 vs a CL55 considering the CL is the flagship, most E55 values are higher than the CL. I would check out an independent mechanic to compare pricing but the estimate you have is about right. Thank you for hearing me out.

Thank you again!
Some background on me and my CL65:
The entire purpose of owning a car like this was to experience a true “SuperCar”.
I already owned Honda’s, Toyota’s, ect... very smart economically sound vehicles to own.
I think we we can all agree - no one should buy a supercar if they are looking for the most reliable, least expensive to maintain vehicle.
I bought this supercar knowing in advance the extremely high maintenance cost. So I put away $500 a month into a special maintenance fund specifically for my CL 65.
I selected THAT year and model because it had one of the worlds highest depreciation rates - $180k+ to less than $45k.
So when I bought this amazing car in 2015, I put the $140,000 I saved due to its insane depreciation into a Vanguard Index fund - and it’s that fund that pays the monthly amount into my maintenance fund.
I just searched nation wide for the lowest mileage best shape 2005 CL65 I could find.
After a few months I bought one with about 20,000 miles on it. It was in pristine condition.
And the $500 a month budget is fairly accurate.

For the original poster, I've been thinking of replacing the ABC pump in my car. It's still working and building good pressure but sounds "weird" so I know something is coming. I've seen prices range from about $700 to $399 on ebay. I guess if you buy it from MB it will be higher. I would try FCP Euro since they give a lifetime warranty on all their parts.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Yes, yours is definitely a candidate for maintaining the ABC. Congrats on the CL65 it is truly a supercar and deserves to be kept original. That was the point i was trying to drive is that conversion should be considered when it makes sense. I don't think my car drives bad or worse than the ABC with coilovers but the little bit that can be improved is possible with improved coilovers. I put sway bars on it so there is no leaning in turns whatsoever. I do all my own work and getting rid of a problematic system was well worth it to me. Good luck with your car. If you are in the Charlotte area I do know of some people that work on european cars that are knowledgeable.

I replaced my pump (see my thread) with a recommended ebay item and it's been great.
I did it myself with help when it came down to removing and installing the banjo bolt.
I was wary of getting this pump but so far everything is fine, fine.. Power steering noise went away, steering is great. Better then the day I bought the car (2nd owner).
Here is the pump I bought:

Interestingly, I noticed you mentioned power steering noise ... I too am getting that so I’m assuming replacing the pump will hopefully solve that issue.
Less than $400 for a refurbished or preowned ABC pump - so much less expensive - is there any compromise to a brand new pump?
