2nd M156 engine died... unreal

2nd M156 engine died... unreal

I’m so fed up with this garbage m156 in my 08 CL63.

should I:

1. Sell it as is?

or

2. drop a M113k workhorse into it it for fun times?

First time the valve stem dropped and damaged cylinder, ENGINE WAS SWAPPED.... this time it sputtered hard, blue/white smoke, wont start, big gas smell. I'm just fed up with the M156 engine. It's absolute garbage.

2020 E 300 Coupe and 2019 GLS 400
First time maybe due to a damaged camshaft bucket where the camshaft drilled a hole and the valve dropped. The second time could be due to a leaking fuel injector. The fuel injectors can be replaced cheaply and you can check if the engine is still in good shape (no bent rods...).

The injectors are a known failure point for M156 engines. I've read that some suggest replacing every 50k miles to reduce the chance of engine failure. I've had an engine fail due to a stuck injector. The damage is similar to head gasket causing hydro lock.

This is what i'm afraid of... hydrolocked and/or bent rod. So now what? Sell, fix or swap to 55k motor?

Take out the plugs and see if the engine will turn over. If not, you most likely grenaded another M156. Even if it turns over, you still may have bent a rod.

Agree that injectors are service items and MUST be replaced as in any other car.

Also, if the camshafts really ate through the valves there is absolutely no way the OP didn’t hear ticking noise. If this theory is true then the OP should have paid attention to it. But something else such as broken valve spring could have been the culprit.
