We installed the Lorinser LM5 wheels from my 03 cl55 on my friends 06 S65 and the rears stick out. Do the 55 and 65 have diffrient rear wheel offset? Even looking at the factory 65 wheels i notised that compared to the factory 55 wheels there is alot less lip.

The rear suspension setup is different.
BTW, all front wheels on staggered setups, non-AMG sport models, 55s and 65s, have a 44 mm offset.
Another BTW is that the 65 has a wider track, front and rear, by 4 mm than all other W220s, including 55s. There are quite a few detail differences in suspension parts that are not obvious.

I had the same issue with my CL65- I wanted a nice lip and the offset sucked. Its the hub that sticks out more on the CL65 than its smaller brothers 600 and 55.
so before i ask, i know that this would be a step back so please lets save the coments
what would you need to change in the rear in order to be able to have the
cl55 offset. As funny as it sounds i would purchase a cl600 and not a 65 if i couldnt put a set of wheels on it that i wanted.

I assume you would need to start by downgrading the brakes to make room. The drive shafts are different, and might be part of why the spacing is different and the track is wider. You might therefore need to swap out the rear end and go to the non-reinforced version used on the 600. Assuming you can then align the car to 600 specs, you would have reduced the rear track by four mm, and would need to do surgery on the front as well or the car could be very unstable. My guess is that you would need to downgrade the front brakes and stub axles are realign the car. At that point the ABC tuning will be off, because it has been modified to work with the 65 chassis. You would need to reprogram the ABC computer with the 600 program as well, and possibly other telematics like ESP, which are fairly sensitive to chassis geometry.Originally Posted by anton28

These are all guesses, though. For a definitive answer you need access to MB parts diagrams and alignment specs.
If the look of your wheels is the most important thing for you and you can't find suitable wheels for the 65 chassis, a 600 would be a much better solution.

Interesting. I tried to ask this question in a cl65 thread, and maybe you could clarify.
The cl65 had brabus monoblock vi wheels. I have a meager cl500 with sport package. I was told the wheels wouldnt fit because of offset. They were originally on an 07 sl550.
Your logic suggests the cl65 is harder to fit and thus if those wheels fit on a cl65 than most certainly they will fit on the cl500, correct?

They never looked right on the sl anyhow. I called Brabus and they claimed my size were correct. 19X 8.5 and 19X 9.5.....

But the mounting surface will be about an inch further in on one that the other. That's because they have offsets that are 30 mm different. All three numbers have to be right. well that sucks, because to me the only set of wheels that looks good on a w215 are the lorinser LM5's. Cant put those on the 65 with out them looking goofy and that sucks.

Sucks for my Monoblock VIs too, I was someday considering moving up from the 55 to the 65 and just keeping the big footwide tires. I may have to rethink things . . .

Well to clear the air, I just called Brabus and they will fit on the cl 500. My wheel has a 45 offset so it works.

That's great news. I hate to keep this issue going - but don't you need flared fenders to get them to squeeze under? My tires are TIGHT in the back, two, no three sheets of paper at the most for the wheel to tuck up into the fender

Well you have 20s and mine are 9.5 in rear. Brabus said to use 275 35 on rears. Maybe you can go to 295s and get a little extra space.
Anyway we obviously love the wheel and i am glad it works for both of us.

I think that the OEM CL65 wheels are very very nice and would not change them at all if I had a 65.

I am having a problem finding some replacement rims for my 2006 cl65. Most of the rims out there don't fit.. Anyone have any suggestions of some good looking rims that work?
I reading some inconsistent messages on the offsets and sizes?? The originals are front: 19x8.5 offset 44mm and the Rear: 19x9.5 offset 46mm.
Is it different and what sizes can I change to without damaging the car and incurring more headaches???

Newbie
I have a CL55 and just bought stock SL65 wheels (the ones that are either titanium or silver with bolts and twin spokes). They were from a SL55 and fit that car fine. I thought they would fit my car but it looks like the offsets are off. Does anyone know if I can have the wheels milled to correct the offset? It seems there is plenty of meat where it attaches to the hub and there is plenty of clearance for the calipers. Any suggestions would be helpful, even if it means selling them and starting fresh. Thanks.
