Rear Accelerometer
I have searched quite a bit or wouldn't start a new thread.
To remove the rear accelerometer do you remove the rear seats & upper tray or go in from the trunk ?
I have the back seats out but not the upper tray, still trying to figure how to remove it. Those darn head rests are doing there flip flop LOL.
My wife wont drive in the car anymore (maybe not a bad thing), it just scared her death when the car started raising & lowering the L / R tire . The first time it happened to me was a shock as well.

Why don't you go through the trunk? Take out the liner and it exposes the under side of the upper tray. Where exactly is it located? Do you have a pic?

I believe, you can gain access to the sensor either way.
I will run the WIS document for you tomorrow with the factory way to replace. PM me your email address and I will forward it to you once run.
The older sensors look a bit different then the new ones that replace it. The new sensors are the same as the ones used on the front towers. I am not sure when the switch was made from the older rear to the newer rear sensor. The new part # is A0045423518

In the diagrams its located in the rear passage side but thats all I have.
I have done a lot of surfing looking for the information. with little to show. I guess it looks similar to the ones under the hood on the shock towers. I have got one coming in a few days.

Is it under the rear seats or behind the seats? If its behind the seats, when you take the trunk liner out you will see the back of the seats.

Found the darn thing. I did try to remove the head rest but found I didn't need to. I did have to tear some of the insulation but it will fit back in well. Not able to get from trunk as there is a shelf that keeps ya from getting near it.

The second picture is of the drape behind the center rest, you can see the pins to which ya need to remove to reveal the above center nut. There are two on the outside at the bottom of the seat back you can see when you remove the seat bottoms. Seat bottoms have a spring loaded button at the front edge center you squeeze to remove those seats.
I drove the car without the sensor plugged in and the red dash light came on along with the cars suspension turning into a marshmallow. I then plugged it back in and the car never acted up again humm well I will install the part when I get it.

What a stupid place to put the sensor.
How do you release the drape part? How does the upper deck lid come unfastened? Is there screws holding it on or just tabs?
I think I'm going to order mine as well and replace it in the spring. My cost on the sensor is 126 bucks. I might take some pictures when I take the seats out for documentation purposes.

Sounds like a good idea.
The upper tray has some push pin/tabs but I didn't get it all the way disconnected. I could not get the headrest apart. Just took 4 screws and one 13mm bolt so it would move a bit.
Looks like there are 2, 8mm fasteners holding down the sensor.
Forgot to say the rear upper side molding above the back tray and above the headrest also had to be removed to free up the upper tray a bit. Its held in by one 10mm bolt found under/behind the plastic air bag badge.
The rest of it I used some plastic pry bars to UN-snap the part making sure to once UN snapped pull it in the direction of the roof line as theres a hook type peace of plastic that would brake if pulled straight off.
Again since I plugged it back in and 25 more miles no more acting up. I'll try to get some better shots tomorrow as well as the part number.
I apologize if this doesn't paint a clear picture there's a lot going on beneath the leather.

^^So what you're saying is that the dealer will have to replace and install the parts at no cost to the customer? What if you have a US car that has been imported into Canada? How would that work?

I am not sure how Canada works, but I assume the Campaign applies to all Mercedes vehicles worldwide. You should have your dealer run a VMI on your VIN # and see if there are any open service campaigns.

My guess is that if a VMI was run on your VIN, and there are no OPEN campaigns, all campaigns must have been completed and closed.
Did you ask that they run a VMI to determine this ?

In Canada they don't know what a VMI is nor how to run it. On top of that, they won't give me any info on prior work or service being done on the car. If I give you my VIN, can you run the VMI and determine what was replaced/fixed? I just confirmed today that my coil packs are still originals or at least have the original part number.

A VMI is a "Vehicle Master Inquiry" report. Any Mercedes dealer can run the VIN in the VMI system and come up with the entire history from birth to present. Generally this is done in the service Dept.
About 5 years ago dealers stopped handing this information out to customers for some reason.

I replaced the accelerometer in the rear and its working fine. I did switch the two rear level sensors as well. Have around 50 miles on the car with no issues. I won't be sold until it stays this way for a while more. If it does act up the same way its not a level sensor . If it twists from the passenger side its likely the right rear level sensor that was on the left rear. Just did that thinking ahead a bit, because I don't see how one sensor controls both rear struts. Again dealing from a ridged deck not having programing information.

Well I've driven the carp out of the car and all is well 
I guess the rear mounted accelerometer ( apparently it looks at the vertical movements) did the trick.
Going to Las Vegas soon approx 300 miles should be fun !!!!

I did "switch" the rear level sensors,(at the same time I replace the accelerometer) so its not likely a level sensor since it acted up on original side. Thinking about my next step as I drive the car and hopefully keep acquiring data.
