With a tune and lighter rims, it should have no problem with the R8!

That R8 driver shifts like a grandma. When you drag race you don't let off the gas even during a shift. If you're scared that you will over rev the engine you shift too slow and should not be drag racing. Also 1 second heard start is very hard to over come. I use to drag race heavily during my teen years. With powerful cars the throttle should be let off 25% not completely which I hear let off. Flat foot shift/power shifting is good for 0.2sec in the quarter mile. The 4 gear shift sound faster.

Impressive run!! I wouldn't do that in the rain. Keep in mind the R8 is the V8 ~420 hp & 3600lbs. Still I'd be happy to run that close in a CLA45.

It could be the car and not the driver. If that's the earlier version of R8, the manual shift is quite horrible. My friend had one and apparently u cannot shift with half clutch.

I understand since there is a delay in the clutch release that probably messes people up. Maid to be smooth, pretty lame...

Ugh...makes me want to bite the bullet and join the club. Can't wait until nlpamg's gets here, so I can experience for myself. Then again, it'll probably make me want to go straight to the dealership afterwards and place an order.

I believe the CLA45's 4matic helped it in the rain.

Impressive especially if the CLA45 is stock, therefore if fitted with one of the current available tunes it would've totally left the R8 behind !!!

Personally I don't believe the R8 was handicapped in any way because of slower shifts, you can clearly hear it being run hard and maxed out, don't believe it would have made a significant difference if it had the DSG trans instead.

This was also a very interesting comparo being in the wet because both are AWD therefore no excuses and/or unfair advantage to one or the other over traction issues.

Very hard to shift R8 manuals fast, they have a weird double gate that's makes speed shifting difficult. The Lambos only have a single gate which makes it easier but still very hard. Those Grazianos gearboxes are quirky so you have to shift them just right at the right rpms to get a perfect shift. He actually did a pretty damn good job of shifting given that handicap.

With tune it would have been no contest... But honestly the V8 R8 is not really that fast, a V10 would have raped it so it's not all that impressive to be honest.

The only really impressive thing was its drag coefficient, you could see how smooth the airflow was by the water trail behind the car, quite impressive.

Whilst I agree that the performance of the V8 R8 isn't exactly mind blowing, to say that the 2.0L 4 pot CLA isn't impressive because it would get eaten up by a 5.2L V10 Super car is a little harsh IMO. Not sure what the price difference between the 2 is over in the States, but in the UK the price is at least double.
