Hey guys so I just got my 2017 CLA45 and I noticed a rattling sound near the front plastic assembly where the seitches for the reading lamps and moonroof are. Is this an issue for anyone else? Any idea what it may be? I notice it when sitting at idle or on the freeway the most when its going a constant speed.

 

Just bring it to the dealer and request a ride with noise specialist.

I did that this morning when dropped off the CLA45 for service.

MB should know by now that the build quality is poor on some CLA's, mine sure has it's rattles after 30K

Any news on the rattling sound? Did you end up taking it to the dealer to check on it? Im waiting on my17 should be arriving anytime around late november so soon xD

 

zero rattles almost 3yrs now.
must be a hit or miss for some people.

Yes, the rattles still exist from both doors behind the HK speakers. MB Dealer here in Houston is MB of Greenway which are great. My SA wants to solve it, the replaced some parts in the passenger door panel. After three weeks the rattles were back again, left the CLA45 with them for a week. They could not replicate the rattles. SA and shop manager went on a ride with me on a 15 min ride. We heard no rattles during that 15 min ride, so took it home. Next they is was back again.....am now four weeks later and just have to get used to the rattles I guess.

Makes you a bit sour when you see the "Best of Nothing" commercials form MB. The issues are not resolved? Have 30K on the CLA and everything else works great.

Agree with tecfoc in posting above, kind of hit and miss. My CLA was probably made on a Monday morning. The workers at the Hungary plant were still with their thoughts on the weekend I guess and did not do a great job during assembling.

Also had rattles and squeaks near the pano roof and rear doors with my CLA250 and now with my CLA45. I don't really bother but the build quality could be better of this model.

 

I had that rattle in my 2016 S550 and discovered it was the loose vanity mirror hinge.
Dealership fixed it but it has just now returned after about 3 weeks

 

Every modern car has rattle threads and every thread have folks insisting that their XYZ make/model never ever rattled, that for $X there is *no way* there should be a rattle, and that the "build quality" of model in question sucks.

Then you buy one of those cars they're talking about.... And it rattles. Meanwhile there are people saying "NOT ONE RATTLE!"

How is this possible?

*Nothing*... is more subjective than a rattle

A noise that sends one person to the asylum, another person *might legitimately not hear at all*

Every car is obviously different. There can be problem areas, but even then, ones pattern of driving and road conditions just might not trigger it

Modern cars have stiff suspensions and use harder materials and far more plastic in order to lower cost and increase durability. People talk about "build quality" of 50 years ago, but todays average cars perform well beyond the top supercars of that era. The reality of that is that the tolerances are unforgiving

People rag on the CLA, and to be sure its no S class, but as you can see above the S class isn't rattle free either

I recently traded my 07 911 which was a ridiculous rattle trap for a '17 CLA45 and yep, I do get a vibration/buzz from the instrument cluster dial shrouds now and again when it's cold

I may or may not take it in. Dealers ripping **** out to put felt tape on it (which 100% of the time is the "fix") *very often* will leave *other* rattles, or scratches, or scuffs, or...

Each person has to decide if thats worth it case by case. Comes down to what sound you happen to have and how bad it is to you

I haven't owned a car that was "rattle free" (or at least close enough over 40k mi or so) since my 01 E46 BMW and I've owned nearly 30 cars over the years (Porsche, Benz, Audi, BMW, Mini, NSX, Evo, GTR, Corvette, SUVs, etc etc etc)
